My first dragon age experience was with Inquisition on the PS4 and I started reading forums about it and all the comments about Origins being better decided to try it, got it for the PS3.

I was a bit skeptical as it being a older game but I am loving it, I find myself playing it more than Inquisition now.  Currently playing through the beginning of all 6 backgrounds to see how they all are.  Have done 4 of them, dwarves are up next.

I got a elf mage through the Circle of Mages quest, that fade quest was a chore and frustrating at times but I got through it.

Currently trying out a Female Human noble, just got to Ostagar.  Love how you start with a wardog at the beginning being a noble.

I have a feeling I will be putting hundreds of hours into this game and the DLCs.

Well I certainly hope you didn't use your position of power to take advantage of poor Iona.

Welcome to the Dragon Age world! And yes, you can definitely lose days and days in those games. Then again, I'm crazy enough to read all the codex entries...

I love how the different origin stories give you a different perspective.
I always used to help that Orta in the Shaperate prove she was from a noble house.
But after the first time I played a dwarf commoner & heard how she spoke to me I stopped.
Now I grab the records & keep them, so she will never be a noble.

Wassup B...

So glad that you love DAO. Welcome to the family.

I, however have a suggestion for you. Hope you won't mind.

Imho, to really get your self immersed in the Dragon Age Origns playthroughs, you really must play it on the PC.

Only the PC will allow you to use mods in your game. And believe you me, mods will bring your gaming experience to a whole new level.

There are so many mods for DAO. After, installing them, the feel of the game will change, dramatically. Not only that, you can have new quests,

get new companions, armors, weapons, skills, spells. You can even change the ENV, change the look of your characters and NPCs.

I am willing to bet, if you love DAO now without mods, you will fall in love again with DAO with mods. But this time round the impact wil be alot more stronger.

Here are all my fav mods...

Yeah since it's an older game I'm sure any laptop or desktop rig will handle it. There are mods to skip the fade or ostagar and still get all the loot, especially if you're going to play through all 6 of your origins!!! Welcome to DAO!!

I got for PC during a Steam sale, it runs ok on my computer but the graphics are lower.  For instance there is no eye color, just black for everyone, and there is no shimmering on lootable items like there is on the PS3 and yes the option is check for it to shimmer.

I don't know what setting controls those things.

It gets better and better.  My Dwarf noble just got back to Orzammar and boy I cannot wait, someone is in big trouble.  Won't spoil anything here but just have to say this is gonna be great.

Ah yes, the dwarf nobles decisions usually go a bit differently than the dwarf commoners.

Welcome to our dysfunctional family fellow Dragon Ager!

In my opinion, and remember this is strictly my own opinion, the dwarf noble has the best origin. Although mage is my favorite class.

Shame I can't be a dwarven mage.

I totally did.... it was a complete oversite on the devs part though, when you see her child in Denirim and can literally do NOTHING for her. Weak.

Agreed, especially given that she's the only named child you encounter during that particular quest.

Welcome to the Family! I envy you my friend, the first playthrough of this game was one of the best gaming experiences of my life. I also have to recommend playing on the pc. I initially started on the Xbox 360, but after I switched over, I can never go back!

I think the mod Sapphos Daughters http://www.nexusmods...age/mods/4134/? gives some sort of closure to that.
I haven't seem that part of it myself though.

I megaditto with those about playing on the PC.   I bought a PS3 & used it ONCE.   No comparison with the keyboard and mouse where you can aim quickly to shoot an ant off the top of a telephone pole.   Great for looking around too.   In DA though, it’s not a 1st or 3rd person shooter.  I personally hate 2nd person combat as in DA.   Alternatively, with the fiddle-fart console controllers, it uses a binary halving algorithm (button or toggle) to find the target.   This is extremely inefficient compared to a laser mouse with 4-5 programmable buttons (save, map, inventory, etc).

I have about 100 games in the attic and 74 on my steam inventory.   For efficiency and ergonomics, I’ve carefully studied the keyboard and organized my keys into the following 3 categories:

  • Used most (movement).
  • Used now & then (duck, reload)
  • Used seldom (codex, inventory, map)

Second, there must not be any real-time CONFLICT of keys like AIM and SHOOT.   My suggestion:

  • ASDF (straight line).  A=left, S=fwd, D=right, F=duck
  • X=backward
  • W=activate, pick up, use, etc
  • G=grenade
  • V=holster
  • B=flashlight

As mentioned, you REALLY DO need to go to www.nexusmods.com pay a few bucks for a month’s subscription (like I did) and later a lifetime membership since I knew any game I played would use mods.  Then download & install their MOD-MANAGER on your computer.   See the 5-minute U-tube class on how to use it.   Then you sign on to nexusmods, select the mod you want, click on it, and it immediately starts to download (as shown) on your computer.   Once downloaded, you then click ACTIVATE or DEACTIVATE.   Wa-lah.   That easy.   For Dragon Age there are over 2,000 mods.   For Skyrim (would you believe) are 38,000+ mods.   Holy cow!   I can’t wait! (next game)

For those of you new to the concept – you will kick yourself for not doing this sooner.    Mods of all kinds.   Weapon mods.   Face & texture mods.   Mission and quest mods.   The one I recommend very much is the PINTS & QUARTS [mission] mod.   You go into a tavern and talk to various people who give you 5 separate missions to level-up & acquire all kinds of cool weapons & inventory.   Do all this BEFORE you begin the main quests.
