so I plan on saving the dreadnought this time and have questions regarding the Chargers

 

- are there certain war table missions I should have them do before sacrificing them? I sided with the magi this time. I think I sided with the templars on another character and received missions regard Redcliffe castle. I don't think those would be necessary this time though.  But are there other ones?  I'm currently level 11 or so, got to Skyhold not too long ago, and haven't done Here Lies the Abyss or Wicked Hearts.

 

- also, I'm in the middle of the Chargers scouting Haven or whatever that mission is called.  If I do go ahead and sacrifice them before the mission is finished would it just fail/disappear?

The Chargers get a mission for every main quest you complete, you just have to talk to Krem about it. You'll get plenty of missions from Tallis if you save the dreadnought, and can even save Denerim from a fire ship later. I'd recommend doing the Winter Palace and Adamant, get those Charger missions done, then save the dreadnought. 

 

And yes, it would fail or disappear since the Chargers are dead.
