What you believe is not really the determining factor here.

What you anticipate developers secretly thought is your own fantasy that you are entitled to.

If you cling to the notion that DAI is a 'sales flop' then that is a static cage of your own making that runs contrary to published information.

The situation seems very clear, DAI has been critically and financially very successful.

That doesn't force you to like the game, it's success does not equate to perfection, but inventing your own truth lacks credibility.

From the Earnings Call statement:

"Dragon Age: Inquisition was named to more than 200 “Game of the Year” lists globally."

"In particular, Dragon Age: Inquisition had by far the most successful launch in BioWare’s history, exceeding our expectations."

"Outperformance versus our outlook was driven by the record-breaking Dragon Age: Inquisition performance."

Yet you did not adress any of my concerns... right?

And as they did not release any data we can only use the data we have: sale flop.

Unless EA or Bioware release some number like 10 million copies sold.

If it is really around 3 million, they completely destroyed the franchise and their own name for nothing. They were better making great games like Origins and selling almost the same. Their soul isn't worthy that much for satan it seems... well, makes perfect sense, that is if they have one.

Honestly I never played Skyrim so I couldn't care less about the comparison. Only my enjoyment of THIS game.

Good, now we can stop with the doomsaying.

Oh my sweet summer child, you know nothing. The doomsaying has but begun.

People said ''just wait for it, EA will release a quarterly report that confirms the game is a flop!!''. EA releases a quarterly report that says the game is Bioware's biggest launch ever, and then the goalposts are instantly moved and the excuse is ''well it's because it was a weak year/young 'uns are stupid/Bioware has abandonned the True Fanstm''.

It's all a big ball of confirmation bias. People who like the game want it to succeed. People who don't, want it to flop, and they all adjust their reality accordingly. Except it seems people who like the game have more of a leg to stand on now, since EA's reports is as good as we can get regarding the performance of a game. If they say it's a success, I'm personally going to believe them. If we can't believe EA's very own quarterly reports, well, there is no source in existence that we can use regarding this topic, unless someone seriously believes VGChartz gives a more accurate assessment than EA itself.

Especially wonderful is this quote by Andrew Wilson (EA's CEO) from the earnings call: "Dragon Age: Inquisition is a true masterpiece from the team at BioWare and a game that is sure to be played for a long time to come."

I'd say we're guaranteed a robust DLC selection and maybe even an expansion pack.

I go through a lot of earnings statements for living, and it's crystal clear that EA is very happy with DAI's performance. Doomcallers have no basis for their arguments. DAI is the very first game that is mentioned in the whole earnings statement, it's the first game to come up in Wilson's commentary section and the game gets its very own paragraph in the highlights section. (Edit: And everything is praise. Also, they can't give investors misleading information in these official statements.)

The EA stock curve has been steadily climbing since October (not just because of Dragon Age, but it's part of it). They never report on exact sales figures on specific games in quarterly reports, so this isn't really worth being suspicious about either. Judging by Wilson's comments and the earnings statement, EA is over the moon about Dragon Age. Just be happy for Bioware, folks!

Also this little interesting detail by Wilson:

"In addition, game (DAI) sales for last-generation consoles were also much stronger than we had anticipated."

They better. The scenary and design is phenomenal. What's inside those phenomenal crafted areas is average at best and almost borderline poor.

Where can I find the average? All I see are letters giving me fetch quests.

The only decente sidequest is Michel's and even then all you do is kill things and then receive very good exposition.

So yes, let us hope Bioware looks into the sidequests. The world is beautiful and vast but I will still take Orzammar over it any day of the week.

I like the game and setting and want expansions, DLCs and sequels. Thus, I am very happy it is doing well.

However, I also think there are serious design flaws and fear they will become the norm if the game does well.

****, I'm so conflicted.

Well I'm not surprised.  I love the game, and I play on PC with KB+M. I've played DAO and DA2 and all the ME games and I am happy with this game, as I was with the other games (the first ME was probably my least favourite). In fact, with the ending, I am looking forward to the next DA installment already.

With the success of the game confirmed, the likelihood of our getting some substantial story driven DLC just got a whole lot higher.

That's a fairer statement than most in this thread. However, I do think Bioware has received the feedback regarding side-quests and such, via forums, Metacritic, a few Youtubers and such. Whenever they will act on it is anyone's guess; we will probably have to look to future DLCs to get an answer to this question.

I dearly hope we get an expansion, because I think the game deserves it and what flaws it has would be somewhat easy to correct in this format. But they said it wasn,t in the plans, so I won,t hold my breath even if plans do change. 3-4 story DLCs is what I'm expecting.

How do they get the 113 million hour statistic. Do the servers track player play time?

NSA is everywhere :) Of course EA tracks player time. If you open origins up and go to my games place your mouse over Inquisition without clicking the game, and look at your time that you've played. This data can be seen by EA... so yea.. we don't have privacy when playing the game using the origins application.

So...how many copies sold? Why not say that? Why even mention something so out in left field like 113 million hours played? I mean, at first that sounds like a lot until you actually do some math and factor in rpgs take a lot of time. 113 million hours can be 3 million players with less than 40 hours played but how many people have way more than that? I like DA:I, I think it gets a lot unneeded flak about game play but the way they worded that is weird. In a financial report I would expect hard cold numbers about units sold.

In all seriousness, I'm happy that EA is pleased with DA:I's performance. Aside from my enjoyment of the game, it's a nice feeling for employees when their studio gets called out by the larger company.

Sounds kind of sappy and Cole-ish, but I like picturing the Bioware team (or any team, really) feeling that feeling. :)

Because they didnt get what they want.

Most likely, but that's a rotten reason to wish for a financial failure for Bioware. Wishing that to happen is either ignorant or cruel.

If a game doesn't suit my taste, I don't hope for it to flop. A financial failure in game development can have serious consequences for the developers, like decrease in income or even layoffs. It's clear that the people in Bioware are passionate about game developing and have given their all (within the budget) to create DAI. It's okay not to like the game, but hoping it fails is malicious.

I feel the same. I wasn't happy with DA2. I gave it a 6.5/10 but I still had fun for what it offered.

There are people who wanted Origins 2, there are people who wanted it to be like DA2, and there people who expected the alpha footage they saw from early footage of the game to be in the actual game.  Sadly its human nature to wish for something to flop when they dont get what they want.

I think this game in design perspective failed where DA O and DA2 did well.

Yet, MONEY TALKS. The game is a financial success in terms of sales

What I would like to know is how much did it cost them. There are movies that sell 800 million but aren't considered as successful as the 500Million ones because the budget is huge. Without a doubt the budget on this game was Huge, the amount of  commercials I've seen is huge

This is how I feel and have felt since day one with this game it's a love hate. If anything I really do like the multiplayer, the sp brought me the mp is what's keeping me around. More content for multiplayer would be enough.
