Hi all, I have mostly been a console player for a while so I missed BG (I know, shame on me). But I would like to go back and play it. Please avoid spoilers.

Just wondering a few things I am curious about in terms of character transfer:

1. It says I can import my character from BG1 to BG2. Does that mean that decisions that character makes impact BG2?

2. If I have a high level character from BG1 does that make the opening areas of BG2 easier or do enemies scale?

3. There are more classes in BG2. Can a BG1 character adopt one of the new classes and if not will I loose our on quests that come with those classes.

4. I have been looking at some character creation forums, what is the difference between Dual class and multi-class

Thanks.

1. No.

2. BG1 caps on 89000 exp, ToSC - 161000. If you explore all areas and kill all enemies you'll get much more exp which will *accumulate* and you'll get those *extra* exp upon import in BG2. So yes, in this case the opening areas of BG2 will be a bit easier. The scaling system works like this - depending on your level you'll get different types of enemies in certain areas/ambushes. Say if you lvl 10 you'll get gobling, if 20 - lich or something like that.

3. If you run BG1 in either EasyTuTu or BGT then you'll get all those new BG2 kits from the start. If you run vanilla, then upon import to BG2 you'll get the opportunity to choose an appropriate kit for your char if it is available.

4. In short multi-class level up in both classes at the same time dividing gained exp between them so grow in levels more slowly but could reach high levels in both classes. Dual-class level up in the first class only, then, after dual that first class became  *inactive* (and all its abilities/proficiencies) until the second class exceeds the first one by one level higher. And from now on you'll level only in the second class. For more info you could look here.

Additionally, humans can only dual-class, and non-humans can only multiclass.

To further clarify the response to #1, there aren't many major decisions you make in BG1 that have an impact on BG2. BG2, while following the same character, takes place in a completely different region than BG1, and you won't be able to visit any of those old places.

However, some characters/companions from BG1 appear in BG2, and the game will not recognize how you treated them previously. Sometimes you can make reference to your prior encounters in dialog choices, but the game doesn't track those decisions for you. BG2 also begins with the assumption that you've been adventuring with a particular set of companions, and they will be present with you at the start of the game regardless if you used them in BG1 or not. I'm sorry if that's a bit unclear, but I don't want to say any more than that because of spoilers.

In any case, welcome to one of the most amazing RPGs ever! Have fun, and always go for the eyes! :)

In addition to what Bondari said re: your 1st question, it may be worth mentioning that your character's reputation in BG1 determines the nature of a number of special abilities they get. In other words, you can control which abilities you get. If you start a BG2 game those abilities will be set by the game, loosely based on your alignment.

Mods can alter this, but don't worry about mods for a while.

I would leave them until you have been playing for a year or so. Yes it IS that addictive.

I actually didn't know that, Blackraven (but I always play good characters, so I probably never would have noticed). Learn something new about this game every day!
