Morrigan says she was sent by Flemeth to get the OGB from Alistair or your male warden (if you made one)

Morrigan can leave your party during the game and in the end you can deny the DR from her, and she leaves with nothing (pregnant if a male warden romanced her)

She cuts off with Flemeth, so really she's not doing what her mother told her to, she's in it for her own reasons

When knowing about Flemeth's plan and killing her, you think she gave up the plan to get the OGB and suggested to the warden so she could save him/her?

In the conversation with the warden when she explains the ritual, it isn't clear if she's proposing that because she wants a child with an old god soul or because she only wants to save him/her

She really wants the soul. If you romanced her or are friends with her, she implies that the Warden surviving is an added benefit.

If you look at how the scene plays out and Morrigan's tone/wording, I believe that she did it to save the Warden, with the OGB as an added benefit. She is blunt and to the point, almost pushy when trying to convince you. She doesn't hesitate in bringing up the warden's love for Alistair (if romancing him) or anything else she can think of to convince the Warden to do the DR (or have Alistair/Loghain do it). The Warden is also, if you have high approval from Morrigan, considered to be her only friend. I see Morrigan wanting to protect her 'only friend'. And also, there's this little comic, told with a story of a female warden romancing Alistair:

It's both. Flemeth told her to do this, and Morrigan also wants the OGS for her own purposes. But you word it as though Morrigan was forced by Flemeth to do it. So Flemeth told Morrigan to get the old god soul, and the warden refuses the ritual. What is Morrigan supposed to do? Rape the warden? Knock them out and have sex with their unconcious body? There's really nothing she can do. I don't see it as cutting Flemeth off, it's just that she tried to convince the warden and failed. Her whole purpose in being there was to get the soul, so once she was denied her chance to do that, what point is there in staying?

Why would she do what Flemeth told her to at stage of the game?

The main reason is obvious the soul of the archdemon that is her true goal, to spare a warden life is only a side effect, she will propose the ritual even with -100 approval.

She's not doing it because Flemeth told her to, she's doing it because she wants the soul for her own purposes.

I believe it's all Morrigan on this one. Sure Flemeth told her but Morrigan wants it all to herself for reasons you can probably imagine.

I always thought Morrigan was unaware of Flemmeth's intentions in the matter until she got her book. It was there she discovered why Flemmeth sent her with the wardens. Instead of going against the idea, she goes with it. Perhaps to spare your warden's life and have the god child for herself. Who knows.

While the comic is beautifully drawn, and I give a big thumbs up to people who put their creativity into 'fan-fic' stuff, this comic bugs me. It kinda implies Morrigan deep down thinks the Dark Ritual is a terrible thing and she's having a crisis of conscience over it.

I don't get that from her at all. She wants the Old God soul - that's clear enough. And we don't exactly know what for. But she certainly thinks it's a good idea. What's more, she presents a good case, with several perfectly rational and strong arguments. The challenge she has to overcome is the warden possibly not trusting her enough to put so much (potential) power in her hands. She might regret losing contact with the warden if she has come to value them as a lover or just a friend, but I've no idea where the idea that she was coerced into the Ritual comes from.

I don't think it's really explicitly stated, one way or another. Still, one could say she wants to do the ritual, just not only for any initial reasons she had (merely getting the soul of the Old God and gaining power). Whether as her friend or as your lover, she also wants to protect you. She does say at some point (at friend status, at least): 'Even if I'm not always worthy of your friendship, I'll always value it'. Add that to her argument of 'some things are worth preserving', and it seems like the Dark Ritual, at this point, is her means of killing two birds in one stone. She gains the soul, and she makes sure you don't die.

In other games it's obvious she cared for the Warden and in mine she called me her sister, so in the end it was obviously for selfish reasons, but also because she cared.

I guess it's always going to be up for debate. Headcanon aside, based on the actual conversation it seemed she "simply did not wish [you] to die". I had high approval and had the sister comment. I think on my very first playthrough I had middling approval with her due to making the mistake of not building up approval enough early on (she disapproves of bloody EVERYTHING, because I'm a noble and virtuous hero :P), but even then I think she said the same.

I've no doubt she had other intentions. Preserving old knowledge and magic is kind of an obsession with her. However based on how things played out in Inquisition, I don't feel as nervous of her intentions. She clearly loves the kid too.

You have the option of telling Morrigan to leave as soon as you are able to get to Camp the first time. Even then, she still somehow makes her way to Redcliffe to make the offer with you. And I honestly, I really hate Morrigan. I think I actually did like her back when I first played the game but it was so many years ago, I don't remember at all how I felt back then. But in the present, I hate her, and just wanted her to end up some miserable old hag like her mother, that's why I hate seeing Kieran so much... All I know is, if Kieran makes another appearance in the future, I will have to go back into the Keep and change my world state so I get the Redeemer ending.

I really liked Morrigan, always romanced her, I saw her as bit of selfish but when you romance her you see that other side of her, that softer side that less selfish side.

I always thought Morrigan is out for herself first and foremost, and having the OGB gives Morrigan a sense of power, even if she doesn't fully understand it, that's her nature, its what I like and learned to appreciate about her character.

Well to think of what Morrigan needs the OGB for. . I could say 2 things. . 1 would be because since the "darkspawn" answers to the call of the Old Gods enciting a possibility that if their child would go to full maturity would be able to assume the powers of the Old God Soul and possibly quelling any other possible or future blights or raising the child as the next archdemon that would finally be able to conquer the the whole of Ferelden.

2 would be the fact that since Old Gods where never meant to be archdemons, Morrigan wanted to raise his son as one of the sole persons that would assume to be an Old God and probably go from there.

This is completely open to interpretation and can come down to what your relationship with Morrigan is.

As you progress through the game, whether it's friendship or a romance, she begins to care deeply about the Warden. With the sister comment where she says something roughly along the lines of "I value your friendship, though I may not be deserving of it", you can tell she's saying this with the DR in mind as her voice has a hint of guilt in it. She knows what she's going to have to eventually ask of you, and she feels bad about it. I'd like to think she even contemplates the DR at some point.

Morrigan was out for the OGB in the beginning, but she cuts ties with Flemeth. So why does she still desire the OGB even though she doesn't want anything to do with her mother's agenda? Her own selfish lust for power and knowledge, perhaps? I like to think of it as a 'two birds with one stone' situation. Morrigan is able to further herself and save her lover/only friend at the same time.

There's fear and self-interest mixed in with compassion. For a long time, she was taught that power is everything, and now these new "feelings" of love and/or friendship have emerged. Sheltered and isolated, I think true friendship is likely something she has never experienced until the Warden came along, but her long-standing beliefs and values still matter.
