Hopefully one of the DLC will be set in Val Royeux, and open up new maps for additional neighborhoods in the city.

This would be good yes, I'd buy it :)  For instance, in DA2, where we spent way too much time in Kirkwall, we got Mark of the Assassin which gave us some much needed exploration outside, an awesome (and funny) DLC, loved it.

I didn't even realize / think of it before I read this thread. So it seems, it's not that important to me.

And Gothic 3... ugh. This is to me what DA:I seems to be for a lot of people. I loved 1 and 2 and hated 3. Even with all Community Patches installed, I still get bugs. And every time I upgrade my PC, I install G3 and it still lags a bit. A game that's nearly ten years old. They messed up open world big time. Gosh I just figured, I'm still angry about this one. Weird ;)

Modern Final Fantasy.

XIII-2 and Lightning Returns had towns and cities. XIII however was all about running away to wild areas.

Also, aside from kieran, no kids in the entire game.

They were probably packed and sent to the far away Chantry. Nothing unsual in time of war.  And frankly, I don't think that (especially) Skyhold would benefit from bunch of brats running around.

Really given Bioware's inability to create realistic urban spaces - seriously have they ever seen a map of a city to know how to lay them out - I wasn't missing the lack of a city in game.

Given that Kieran and that thing that greets you when you wake up from closing the breech the first time are both kids (I'm sorta guessing on thing 1) and both are creepy as all get out, thank you Bioware for not having more.

You mean that ain't gonna happen with DAI.... :P even if it would give the game a huge boost?

Not if Biowares get unemployed and found a new developer team for their own good. You know, Risen was quite a relief after buggy G3.

Well as far as I remember Piranhas said that there were a real bunch of wrongs made in the core of the game. And... interesting, they were hurried up by the publisher!

Sweet ****** of Andraste, this world will never change as people don't learn anything by making neck-deep mistakes.

At least that publisher is no more :D

Risen really was a relief. But Part 2 wasn't that good anymore and part 3... well... I played it for 2 hours before I had the urgent feeling to kill Patty and I thought it looked just horrible. Never turned it on again.

And now, I'm so assdeep in Inquisition I don't need another game. Or cities, to get to the topic again ;)

Risen 2 wasn't really good, yes. But Titan Lords are something to consider.

At least playthroughs and reviews don't point out any really bad issues. Forums... Well, forums there show that we Bioware fans are intelligent and polite as fans could ever be.

We are intelligent and polite... but.. do they listen to us ? Some of us may be rude, but we all want the same thing: The game to be good and memorable.

Makes one wonder what they spend all those resourcesTM on that they can't make a city. EAWare has got to be the worst AAA game developer when it comes to game design at the moment. They got about 3-5 hours of quality content in cutscenes and some story moments and then hundreds of hours of subpar waste.

They cut corners everywhere, from vast empty spaces through character customization to graphics (hair looks as if taken from an average last gen title).

For the size of maps which DAI covered it is laughable how little urban space there was, which is riidiculous for something that is supposed to be a game of the year. The hair choice alone is a parody.

When you add up all the things that people keep coherently complaining about overall DAI is a really bad game.

Neither do other developer teams, must be a disease or something... Hopefully it isn't STD as we need some healthy nextgen developers.

Remember when the citadel in Mass effect actually felt like a citadel, then they gave us the crappy 3 floors of Me2/Me3, those days when game devs added depth and scope seem so far away thesedays.

The Citadel portions were small in ME2 because rather than getting a large urban hub, as there was in ME1, there were 3 hubs: The Citadel, Illium, and Omega.

While in ME3 the Citadel was the only hub, I think it is much more alive than the ME1's version particularly if you include the Citadel DLC and the Silversun Strip. ME1's version of the Citadel is a a bit overrated out of nostalgia, IMO. It was vast but largely empty.

As long as the npcs in bioware games are just there for decoration so that the places don't look empty, I don't want any cities. If Kirkwall or Val Royeaux is anything to go by, than whatever city bioware creates, it will be a lifeless and dull place without any atmopshere.

Well, four if you count Tuchanka.

if that counts why don't we have Ilos, Noveria and Feros for urban areas in ME1? :D

Noveria and Feros count. Why would Ilos? It's a combat zone...

So we have the town of redlciff and... nothing. Val Royeaux is one screen so it doesn't count.

It's the world's first RPG that takes place entirely in the wilderness.

Where's Denerim? Where's the blighted rebuilding of lothering? Why do we live like savages?

They rules in the gaming industry when it comes to kid npcs.  And you'll probably see a city in a DLC

What are you talking about? It was a formerly top secret research facility that the player now shoots through.

What does that have to do with anything?

That's like pointing to Freedom's Progress in ME2 or Eden Prime in ME1 as an example because they started as urban centers. They're not HUBs.

Dragon Age Inquisition is a hack and slash controller optimized offline MMO with some RPG features.

So there will be no cities.

+1, I dunno where the idea that Bioware can't do cities came from, but it's a bit unfair. The Citadel DLC's strip was amazing.

I think the weird part was that Val Royeux was described as being this vast metropolis at the centre of an Empire. To find it's actually just a big building with a population of less than 50 was a tad underwhelming, particularly since Bioware have repeatedly demonstrated that they have a knack for making cities to appear much larger than they actually are. I mean, just remember Taris.

I loved Taris and Manaan...apparently I was one of the few, from everything I saw on internet forums.  :(

If that's what we're counting, we have to add a few to ME's total. London, Thessia, Grunt and Tali's RMs, the Benning N7 mission.... any others?

I'm OK with just adding Noveria and Feros, myself.
