I am not sure if anyone will read this, but here you go.

Graphics are very good, maybe too good. Everyone seems to be sweating a lot, all the skin is sparkling in the light. The character models seem to stand out from the background (a fine line around models like in cartoons) and not blend in.

The loading screens take some time, but once you made it into an area it is fine.

I tested DirectX11 and Mantle. With DirectX there is an input lag, it doesn't feel fluent. Using Mantle, I have no input lag at all and it feels much more like action combat, but the loading screens take three times as long?

The looting minigame annoyed me at first and is a good compromise between DA:O and DA:2.

In DA:O you had to move the mouse over every single object in every area to find hidden codex entries. In DA:2 it was like Disneyland with shineys everywhere and autoloot (walking up and interact is computer controlled) everything double-tabbing 'R'.

Now you hit 'V' to search, if you are throughout you cannot miss anything, then search for highlighted things, walk up to them, target it with the mouse cursor, right-click every single object, move the mouse to the opened loot window to click 'Take All'.

This does take stress out of the game, because you cannot jump from one fight or area to the next just like that or miss out on things to discover.

Why can we not assign mouse buttons to actions like searching for loot? There is a user made tool on Nexus to let you do that, but it makes the DirectX input lag even more and has other features I am not fond of.

Action combat:

I would have liked either concentrate on movement and include some evade actions, where single-click attacks matter and do more damage.

OR

Auto-Target (or at least auto-face) and hold a button.

My hero often misses (two-handed warrior), because the holding-button attack lands nowhere. The target often runs away or steps aside. It doesn't matter if I fix it or not.

OR

Auto-Attack and concentrate on targeting.

CURRENT:

No Evade/Damage, No Auto-Target/Face, No Auto-Attack

Paused combat is OK for party members, but not for the controlled. You still need to walk up to the target, face it and hold a button for an attack.

You removed tactics from the game? Only boolean choices if he should use that ability, target what the controlled character targets or defend him and when to take health/mana potions.

FREEEEDOOOM :P

I love it, you can jump, walk everywhere, do anything, plan your next steps yourself (like in DA:O) and have to make decisions!

For sure, I am not very deep down the rabbit hole yet but that is what I liked or not on first impression.

p.s. The unique weapons and armour graphics.

The weapons look as bad and silly as in DA:2, much to big and weird. In DA:2 I usually took a stock greatsword and copied the stats from the best weapon I found to it using a savegame editor, so I didn't have to look at them.

Now the armours look stupid too 0.o

I got this dragon set straight from the start as special delivery and do not dare to wear it, the hammer, sword and armour look ridiculous IMHO

On the contrary, you cannot zoom close enough to properly look at your character ;)

Mate I'm glad you're liking the game. Hopefully you'll still find that hole you're popping in... rabbit enough... after you're done.

I probably do something on my own with AutoHotKey. Just a key to toggle auto-attack on and off, then you can circle around your enemy, concentrating on special attacks and targeting.

Something like:

Pause On
Loop,
{
   Click
}
NumpadSub::Pause

It unpauses the script if I hit the (-) on the numer block and clicks the left mouse continiously until I hit the (-) again.

Since you cannot really control the other party members and influence their behaviour (hard-coded), I'll try to fight on my own through the game ;)

p.s. should work for searching too:

Pause On
Loop,
{
   Send v
   Sleep 10 ; .01 second
}
NumpadAdd::Pause

This is toggled using the (+) key on the number pad.

//edit: another useful keymapping:

MButton::g

This maps autorun to the middle mouse button

No sparkling and blends in just fine in my game. Looks amazing. Could be your graphics card. Loading screens are also pretty fast for me, so that's also probably system related. :)

I can post a screenshot later for reference.

Some of the screenshots look weird and have lots of floating squares as if the screen would be a puzzle on a black background. This doesn't show ingame, only on some screenshots :)

When I start the game, it goes to the normal menu, then click continue, it shows the cards for ~10sec, then black for another ~20-30sec before I can see the Hinterlands (feels like 1-2min to get into the game). On Mantle you can add ~10sec to the black loading screen.

Or lets say it takes twice as long as to boot up my PC.

Pics would be nice. They don't sparkle like in Twilight, though?  ^_^  Just timed my loading times...

Normal menu to Heaven -> 19 seconds

Haven to Hinterlands -> 21 seconds

Still at work for another 2.5 hours :(

This is not all meant bad about the game, I just make adjustments to my liking (the advantage of playing on a PC). There must have been beta testers who loved the combat and search controls for example.

Once everything is set and tuned, I start over with the story and the real playthrough.

I got that, no worries. DAI can't be perfect for everyone, not even me, I admit that. I know many hate the controls and the search bing(V) but I actually like them. I hardly ever use the tactics. I have paused the game in middle of a fight to either throw a barrier, make companions use potions or to revive but that's about it. I've let AI control the rest of my team and haven't had any problems with that. Haven't played on nightmare, though.

From the main menu to Hinterlands takes ~40sec. Fast travelling from the Hinterlands to the camp in the Outskirts takes ~7sec.

Here is a hint on how the skin shines with reflection, this is in proper conversations much more visible (couldn't find any).

My hero in his ugly armour :P http://i.imgur.com/lppHcGK.jpg(I need to find something dark, that looks used in combat)

//edit: I updated the scripts, they work fine :) Auto-Attack On/Off and a Search-Aura on demand.

//edit: wohoo, fighting is much better now. Time to have some fun http://i.imgur.com/tJSrSl1.jpg

The shine in those pics is actually pretty normal looking to me. I was actually expecting something really sparkly. I guess in this case it comes down to personal taste then. :)  I don't recall any material looking kinda used but at least you can get both onyx and obsidian already from Hinterlands, which both are more or less black. And also farm the one chest in Redcliffe village for obsidian + fade touched obsidian (3 guard on hit). I'm not a fan of the dragon armor, either. The colors remind me of a court jester.

One quick question, should I finish an area before going back to the war room or go back in between?

There is so much stuff to do in the Hinterlands...

Go back in between and return on cooldown from wartable missions.

Go back in between and return on cooldown from wartable missions.

And I wouldn't miss anything?

Like in the previous games, where you go on to the next act and all the previous quests cannot be completed?

Nope. In DA:I the threat is so 'imminent' that you can do whatever you like in between main missions. Just be sure to avoid them.

I always do the "In your heart shall burn" main mission as soon as I can (proper level), though but that's matter of choice, really.

I kind of get an idea on how this works, now back in haven to talk to the companions.

Found one of the bards and made a better looking armour: http://i.imgur.com/AtfQcfo.jpg

As a noble human and meant to serve the maker, I try to chat up Cassandra ;)

Tbh, it's like that with all RPGs.

@disi123

The game seems to be made that way, you're expected to leave an area, go elsewhere, come back later. :)

After playing a bit, the loading times are not so much of a problem because you do not need to teleport all the time in the semi-open world and the travel within a map only takes a few seconds (5-7sec).

I even wonder if I could walk on the map all the way from the Hinterlands to Haven.

If it were 40sec in DA:2 I would have bitten into my desk every time, there you had a teleport and loading every minute or two.

I guess it has also to do with all the online stuff connected to the game, there is close to no disk activity during loading. Can you play it without internet connection?

I miss the close up cinematic conversations. Often the background noise makes it hard to understand what is said. I already put the ambient volume to 50, Speech to 100 and music to 25. They made the same mistake in Skyrim, to remove the cinematic screen for conversations as it was in Oblivion. Thankfully there was a mod to bring it back.

Also due to the restricted zoom level, the only time you get a close up of a character is either the inventory or if you are lucky in a cinematic.

//edit: One big grrr in the game... Yesterday I met my Quartermaster (Tron or something) and she served under Loghain. She also told me it was the right decision to leave the king to die by the Darkspawn, they would not have been able to win. King Cailan was outnumbered, the signal of the Wardens too late blablabla...

I want to kill her, but my character doesn't know about all what really happened in Ostagar. Is there a way to replace that traitor?

OK, with Inquisition Perks you can enable new dialogue options. This is cool and quite useful to persuade some of the NPC in the Hinterlands for the Inquisition.

I decided to finish the Hinterlands first, before I delve deeper in the functionality of the war table. It is a little tedious with repeating tasks, but as a warrior I got my ass kicked in the beginning and now I can actual venture a little further and explore the whole area.

Lvl 6 with 20+ Power and no idea what to spend it on, I guess time will tell :D

Are the Astro-thingies buggy sometimes? I found an unsolveable one yesterday, where the stars did not fit the sign given?

The overall story:

You help people in the regions to join and support the inquisition. Giselle told me a little about this organisation and a lot about the old inquisition. Sounds quite cool, you fight and rule all sides (The Siege anyone?) merciless until order is restored, then they simple lay down arms and let the 'civil' organisations rule themselves again.

It reminds me of that movie with Bruce Willis where he says: "You do not want martial law in your own country, we will search and destroy the enemy. Except the enemy is within their own people."

//edit: 14h played now and what still puzzles me... I do side missions to be get better at doing side missions?

Why do I do requisitions? Just power and influence grinding, nothing is gained, no new weapons/armour at the quartermaster or better equipped troops..

What do I need influence for? To unlock perks i.e. carry more or gain faster XP (The extra history and spy dialogue options are good ;))

What do I need power for? To unlock new zones with more side missions.

What do I need agents for? Found it here: http://uk.ign.com/wi...Agent_locationsSeems to give you certain advantages while doing side missions/quests.

BUT

What is the purpose of all these side missions/quests?

How do you progress or prevent to progress the main storyline?

My best guess is, they want me to talk to the rebel mages (need to figure out how to get there first).

In the previous DA games, I usually did every side quest first before I progressed with the main story. Only when I could not continue the companions and side quests, did I progress the main plot to the next step.

If I finish all the areas like the Hinterlands first before I talk to the mages, is this compareable?

p.s. As for the game engine on mantle, I didn't have a single crash. In windowed fullscreen I can switch between desktop and game in splitseconds, sometimes I browse the web and forget the game is still running minimized. The game runs very smooth otherwise.

The loading times to travel between zones are a little long (~30-40sec), I have my saved game folder on a slower disk drive, maybe this slows it down?

My soundbar has some issues to lower the background noises for conversations. I have the cinema thingy enabled in the options, speech on 100%, sound effects on 50% and music on 25%. The music is very quiet, but if there is a smith or there are two villagers chatting, I have a hard time concentrating on what my conversational partner has to say.

When it comes to perks, the must haves for me are extra healing potions (8 -> 12), more inventory space, the "Deft Hands Fine Tools" for opening locked doors and, of course, the "Short List" which allows you to get the best armors and weapons schematics from merchants.

The main storyline missions are under a green rift mark on the war table. Easy to notice and you need larger amount of power to unlock them. I always do the first two main missions ("In your heart shall burn" being the second one) and then take my time. That opens new areas and the game more, and makes it more enjoyable. Staying in Haven too long can get pretty boring. The romantic relationships won't  pretty much develop past flirting in there, either.

I wouldn't stay at the HInterlands too long. Sometimes you have to go back to already visited/cleared areas, anyway, or jump between two different areas because some quests aren't restricted just into one. But you should move forward when you feel like it.

Thanks!

At the moment I try to clear all the areas before I travel to Val Royeaux. There is a good list with level requirements here: http://uk.ign.com/wi...quisition/Areas

I finished Hinterlands so far. There is this dragon (98k health) and they won't open Redcliffe. Deft Hands is an Inquisition Perk ^^ There is this one door Varric cannot open, mentioning the tool tip!

Stormcoast. Mostly done, except for the Red Lyrium where the door is closed in the north west and I watched some dragon kill a giant at the coast. Dragon 64k health and the giant 14k, makes me wonder -.-

Fellow Mire, just started really and on the second camp now. Found a nice two-handed axe Arishock-Axe or something.

My hobby: http://i.imgur.com/59BVs9r.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ibkSyEh.jpg (I did have to come back for the last rifts in Hinterlands, as they were too strong at first)

Still not impressed with the camera during conversations. For example when I entered the Fellow Mire, the whole conversation was zoomed out (like if you talk to random folk), then the camera zoomed in and showed her face while there was no text left and she just stared at me: http://i.imgur.com/CWvllYS.jpg

I had the same with a scout in Hinterlands, the one who's female apostate lover died. Otherwise only normal zoomed out conversations :(

//edit: the graphics are so cool (smallest people build the biggest things): http://i.imgur.com/v4ueXMt.jpg

wow: http://i.imgur.com/O0dU2Qv.jpg

The scout I mentioned earlier, she just kneeled there after the zoomed out conversation: http://i.imgur.com/XE2A1R1.jpg

p.s. I had to get a better screenshot tool for the mantle engine, but the shots are really nice now. I think the game makes per default 1600x900 and every time the picture froze for a second when I used it.

Yeah, I could watch those Storm Coast waves for hours, just like at the shipwreck in Despoina in ME3. Amazing. I'm using paid version of Fraps for screeshots and video clips. They come out really nice. Hmm, I have never had those conversation glitches in my game. Odd.

I wouldn't stare too much on those level requirements (especially depending on your gear), only the main mission ones. The "In your heart shall burn" is around 8 and up. The one before it even lower. If you haven't cleared the Valammar at the Hinterlands, there's a tier 3 chest in the vault there which you can farm for better equipment. Well, if that's something that you like to do, anyway. Many just wants to grind the game as is.

Oh, and if you ever want to have enough Revenant hearts in this game, don't fully close the one rift at the Fallow Mire, the one in the middle of the large stone circle. There's one in Exalted Plains, also. Those need to be farmed or one of the rune shematics is useless.

I did the Chantry and Red Jenny quest, but didn't talk to the 'Enchantress' Fiona yet.

Companions so far... I did them all auto-level to keep their characteristics.

Cassandra: Has something to say to nearly every quest as main character and is dedicated to the cause. Best tank IMHO.

Varric: He feels kind of dragged along and not really convinced for now. Talks a lot of BS to Cassandra and Solas.

Solas: Weirdo, who only joined so he can find more dead people to talk to... talks a lot of rubbish. Best healer/buffer, I guess.

Iron Bull: Head on the most convincing character. A brainwashed Qunari with the purpose to help defeat the Blight. As I play a tank myself and Cassandra is one of the main characters as a tank, I usually do not bring a third tank :/

Sera: I love her, but she has so little to say. She quotes Starwars ("The blight here is strong blabla or whatever") and stands in front of everything behind Cassandra, while Cass enjoys protecting her ;) I also need to know who Red Jenny are.

Blackwall: Squishy compared to Cassandra. He doesn't talk much, even about his own personal quest.

Vivienne: Good mage and talks to Cassandra. Typical noble, she seems to stand above things like the circle and the templers. No doubt she will go all the way to restore order.

Myself (dmg-tank), Cassandra (full-tank), Sera (range-rogue) and Vivienne (barrier-cold-mage) it is then :)

p.s. Just for the purpose to bring Iron Bull along, I might play a red haired female rogue next time.

//edit:

OK, after dissolving the templers (cool, decision time), I did "In your heart shall burn" and in the process killed grand enchantress Fiona who was fighting for the Darkspawn Lord's army. There is no need for templers, circles or chantries they all need to fight with the inquisition (Vivienne would disagree about the circle).

This really brings along the story and was very exiting :)

I am now about 40h played and arrived in Skyhold...

p.s. About conversation camera, it is no bug. I think it was intended to adapt the Skyrim dialogue system, where you just stand there in the plain and have the conversation wheel without or very little zooming in on the characters speaking.

Some conversations in personal quests of companions or general important story conversations work very well and there the camera zooms in to show their faces. This makes them much more intimite.

I noticed for all agents you recruit there is the third person conversation and then some cutscene at the end.
