First priority is defense and functionality.  The Inquisition should worry about aesthetics after the threats have been eliminated.

But there are a lot of people in the Inquisition that are not combat troops, but craftsmen.  Once the walls are secure, they ought to be clearing things up a bit.

What really bothered me was how you'll head over to a companion's little designated place...and then warp over to some other area of Skyhold entirely for a cutscene.

I liked how ME3 did that more. If a companion moved somewhere else for a certain conversation, you'd actually find them hanging around that part of the Normandy when you start the conversation.

I thought it was fairly obvious that Skyhold will be continue to be repaired and updated over time as DLC is released, since they all occur after the final battle.

I'm expecting many more functions by the time the game is thoroughly over. I think people should acknowledge that.

If that were ever said by the Devs, that would be awesome.  But it hasn't, to my knowledge, which makes your idea awesome, but not official.  You can't ask people to acknowledge something will happen when we don't actually know that.

I was so disappointed that their idea of making the garden into a working garden was to add a few more pots.

I also wanted a truly magnificent mage tower. Sadly, the Templar tower is even less impressive.

And the infirmary? That's a disgrace, but I hate having to go around the practice ring on my way to the war room.

Yes, I want to repair the corridor to the war room with some glass to allow the light to shine forth. And

I want a chest!  There are some things I would keep as a momento. I need a chest to put them in.

I haven't figured out where Leliana, Dorian, Varric, or Cole sleeps.

Cole doesn't. :P As for the rest, I agree with whoever said that everyone must have some proper quarters somewhere. There's plenty of space in the main tower below the Inquisitor's rooms, for example, and that'd be the perfect place for other members of the inner circle/leadership.

Oh, and regarding the pointlessness of the upgrades, let's not forget that the Chantry garden is bugged and doesn't even do anything. I picked it anyway because my Inquisitor's a believer, but the constant chanting ended up annoying me.

To be honest, my biggest issue with Skyhold is the random nobles hanging out in the Great Hall. This is a military stronghold, not a soiree, get the hell off my ship etc etc.

But yeah, the holes in the roof and the walls are ridiculous. They could have at least fixed them after getting all three upgrades or near the end of the game. How long has the Inquisition been there by the time they killed Corypheus? Long enough to upgrade the tower, courtyard and garden, but not long enough to mend the freaking walls?

The nobles are your usual lickspittle courtiers. And they're waiting on Josie. Remember her office is right there.

Agreed, when we 1st got to skyhold it was in ruins and it slowly got repaired and got new additions with time. I thought by doing the upgrades we'll actually be able to SEE the upgrades that took us a while to get the necessary materials for, but no.

Atleast on my 2nd playthrough I now know what to do/ not do

Oh yes, I didn't care for that either, and they do get in the way of making Skyhold really feel like "home", a place where the Inquisitor can relax away from both political and martial battlefields. I'm also not keen on letting notoriously abusive Orlesian soldiers near my people ... and while I didn't banish the Grey Wardens, I don't exactly want any of those potential Corypheus-vessels anywhere near my home, thank you.

Especially the two in the Hall when you first arrive at Skyhold, who complain about how much of a dump the place is, despite it being obvious to anyone that we'd only just moved in and that our forces are too busy trying to bring survivors in, treat those who are wounded and get ourselves reorganised to spare five minutes to do a bit of sweeping.

Orlesians... remind me again why we have to save them?

Orlesians wouldn't come within five miles of Skyhold.

Orlesians missing their masks are however permitted to wear a gag instead. They'll find the Inquisition staff all too willing to help them put them on?

I hope to see Skyhold fall to siege in the final dlc.

Masked lords strolling over broken battlements and the unwashed masses that sought to defend them.

It would be a good way to wrap the second inquisition.

Iron Bull's bedroom is above the tavern (top floor). You can see him in it in the cutscene where the romanced IQ gives him the gift.

I haven't figured out where Leliana, Dorian, Varric, or Cole sleeps.

Aren't there some bedrooms on the second floor above the Skyhold courtyard/garden area?  I assume Leliana and Varric could have those.

And I've decided Dorian crashes on my Inquisitor's couch just to annoy Giselle.

I'm more disappointed with how utterly meaningless the garden/courtyard/tower upgrades are, and how much of the place still lies in ruins even at the final stage. You'd think all these devout Andrastians would clean up the little chapel by the gardens at some point. Cullen still doesn't have a roof over his head, the hallway leading to the war room is still broken and so are some of the towers, including the main tower right below our fancy rooms. What the hell?

Also, no storage. That is just mind-boggling.

No kidding. What really annoys me is that there is no reason why you can't do both upgrades (in particular the courtyard), Why can't have I both a sparring ring and hospital, a Chantry garden with 6 pots to grow herbs, and two watchtowers one for mages and one for templars since no matter who side with in the Mage/Templar War you're going to end up some members from the other side.

Also what is with that room under the antechamber? There is a whole room (there is a staircase off to the side to door that enters the room where Josie is) that is empty. There are a private reading room, wine cellar, and the kitchen all connected to it but there is a massive hall with only one painting and a dwarven looking statue in a corner but that is it. What is this room for?

The only thing I can think of for the condition of Skyhold is in (ie a lot of the broken and empty rooms) are for an upcoming DLC to customize, fix, or upgrade the place and by having it in the game no one can say: "Where did that room come from?",Of course that is just a guess and I might be wrong.

I was thinking that too, but the letters found there indicate that it might belong to someone else (unless Leliana brings work home)

Agreed about the upgrades. The only one that makes a bit of a difference is the garden. The Chantry garden opens a war table mission to collect tithes and the herb garden allows you to plant and collect more herbs. Other than that, the rest is purely cosmetic, which would be fine if the rest of the castle got fixed along the way. Those crumbling walls are just an eyesore.

Honestly, I don't really mind the fact that most of it is cosmetic. But it would be nice if it was used for NPC interactions. Let's say you pick the chantry garden - have more sisters standing there, teaching and preaching, have groups of NPC come by to kneel at the statue and say their prayers. On the other hand, if you pick the alternative, have more pots standing around, plant more plants - make it a cozy place where lovers would go or where friends would sit and talk in peace. Where scholar would discuss the plants.

Just make it mean something.

It would have been nice if there were more upgrades though. I really miss a bit more customization to my castle. And it would have been nice to see some interaction with the present characters. So - have Solas stroll the gardens, and Cullen walk through the Templar Tower or Vivienne through the mages tower.

And I agree with what's been said before - why is there still so much ruin left over? We run around, invest, collect - and yet there are still dozens of areas that are crumbled.

And yes - PLEASE ADD SOME STORAGE. Why am I master of an entire castle and there is not a single box where I can put some stuff in? Really?

Yes it feels sort of desolate does it not? Especially  those rooms below Skyhold, with not but a few random paintings and a wine cellar etc. I was hoping that Skyhold would be bigger with a private armory and a full stable (sort of like in Skyrim). Another thing that I found odd is how Cassandra (if romanced) never visits your quarters until the end of the game... The Inquisitor's room is practically useless, Shepard's cabin had way more going for it:space hamster Boo the 27th, fish, people actually visited Shepard, space hamster Boo the 27th. XD lol

Yes I'm sure laying siege to the mountain fortress atop a hill in the snow and ice against Andraste's Prophet with a friend on the sunburst throne and among the Orlesian nobility would go so well for them...
Then again I don't even understand how the hell they keep that castle supplied up there

There's a whole walkway of rooms above the garden area, plenty of beds for the remainder of the party. Some of them even have clues to the occupants, like Iron Bull's for instance being ransacked beyond the normal Skyhold rubble. Seconding most of the other complaints, nobles in the great hall, poor Cullen's roof, Varric pretty much standing in a mudroom, etc.

And that was what I had to make an account to add? Yeesh....sad for me.
