From what I've read you can't promote Barris until you judge someone first but I believe I've already judged everyone that I can in the game so does that mean I can't promote him? If so where is the patch to fix this Bioware?

I'm not currently able to get it on the ally path. It's an active mission that's supposed to be in Skyhold but there's nothing for me to do.

From what I understand, you can only promote Barris if you kept the templars together, and there is a war table chain that you'd have to go through to be able to promote him.
As for requiring another judgement to fire his, I'm not sure. I did 4-5 judgements in a row, and he was one of them. I haven't tried getting his judgement to fire on its own. *shrugs*

the missions will not appear if you obviously sided with mages or disbanded the templars
on top of which you have to have a sit in judgement left
so if you've done all your sit in judgements
or disbanded the templars
you will never get this

You can get the promotion if you conscript the Templars, the only thing that changes are a few dialogues.the missions will not appear if you obviously sided with mages or disbanded the templars

or disbanded the templars
you will never get this
But its corrently bugged if you go with conscription, I got the war table mission in my first playthrough but not in the second (in both, e templars were conscripted)
Here is the video with the promotion on conscription path: https://account.xbox...76-e00e7fe465df
Infortunaremos his promotion is bugged, it will only trigger if you receive another judgement and sit on the throne, if you dont have any other judgement you cant promote him, you will need to wait until its parches. From what I've read you can't promote Barris until you judge someone first but I believe I've already judged everyone that I can in the game so does that mean I can't promote him? The missions are always sucessfulMight depend on the outcome of his War Table missions, I imagine if they were unsuccessful he won't get promoted

Ok, I was afraid of that. It would of been nice if this came up earlier in the game.

Hopefully this gets fixed in a future patch. I was wondering what was going on with this (or if I was missing something) until I read on the DA Wiki that this quest can't be started properly.

Seeing as I'm only going to conscript the templars the one time and that play through is done I reckon I'll never get that quest.
Yeah pretty much. Unless they fix or identify the bug.

It is not bugged, you can promote him.
I did smile like an idiot. Stupid game.

I think I'm missing something. I thought Barris always died by the time you get to ally with or disband the Templar Order.

hmph, never seen this.
@Orian, when doing the quest you really need to get back to the main hall with the quickness to help them, or he will die. don't let the meter dwindle down too much. at all.

Ah, so basically just get back there sooner? Because I vaguely remember him being alive, and helping to fend off the demons.
It's too late for that game, but I'll be doing it again on my next non-mage playthrough.

If you hear a conversation about him taking damage, you were too late. He will continue to fight, but will die after.

Sorry, that doesn't help me, since I did that quest about 2 months ago. Anyway, when I finally get round to it in my next game, I'll be sure to look this stuff up.
The main reason I missed it though, was because of my desire to loot and kill as many enemies and containers as possible. I even failed once, and had to reload the latest auto-save.
