Hey y'all,

I'm currently in the process of making making N7 armor and an Anders cosplay.

I never thought the N7 armor would be the easier project.

So, my question is, for everyone that has made a Anders cosplay, or anyone with good suggestions, how should I make his feather pauldrons? I've been looking at both fur and feathers and each have their own pros and cons.

Hey! Nice to see another Anders cosplay coming up!! :) Where can I follow your progress?
Depends highly on which version you are making - as the brown-teal one sports long-haired fur (as far as I have figured fake fox looks the closest to the in-game thing, even though I chose fake wolf, since it was an option that was cheaper at the given moment) and the black one is black feathers. The internet may tell you otherwise but trust me I've seen the textures compared. There's a fair difference between a fur pile and a feather :)
As far as I have seen other people do, they just take light fabric and sew feathers onto it, one by one. The fur shrug thing is even easier, it's just, well, what the name says, fur shrug. I have also seen some just drape it over the shoulders but I think it would be more game-accurate to make a shrug.

Hope that helps, would love to connect with you somehow so we can build together and share tips!

Glad to see even more DA cosplayers, woo!

I'm partial to the idea that Anders is rocking feathers, but both can achieve really nice looks.

^ As mentioned above, sewing feathers individually is the best way to attach them (most annoying thing about feathers is that they most often need to be clipped). By having control over the direction of each feather, you can layer and shape them to make a really flattering looking piece. The positive about fur is that you can obviously machine stitch it if need be. If you go this route (and I've learned this the hard way in the past from other costumes), cut the fur with a sharp xacto knife instead of scissors, or you'll get fur everywhere. If you need to sew it, you can "pick" the fur caught in the seam allowance out to make the seam pretty much invisible.

Please post your progress if you get a chance/finished product, I love seeing other people's work! :D

That was a nice tip there, StarDustShadow! :) I will definitely use that when I get to the part of fur sewing (which is alas yet far away as I'm only fiddling with boots and tunic yet)

Sorry for the late reply, college and such. Thank y'all so much for the advice. I'm going to do the brown outfit and ,yes after studying the pictures more carefully I do think that it is fur.

I am still in the planning stages right now, but as soon as I start making it I'll either post it here or on deviantART, probably both. And I'll send y'all messages.

Is it too late to reply? Oh well I'm gonna do it anyway. I am a Anders cosplayer myself and I used a combination of fur and feathers. I used the fur as a base and then glued feathers in the fur so its extra fluffy, but also it looks very full. I got my fake fur at joanns and they have strips of it. I bought three and it totaled up to $12(?). And the feathers come in packets for $3-$4.

All in all, its cheap, easy, and there is a mission called Arcane Feathers in the DLC, hence why I am a huge advocate for Anders cosplayers using feathers.

Happy cosplaying~

Why won't you buy suitable faux fur and sew the feathers carefully on it? It would feel more natiral, because the movement of the feathers will be very soft. Of course match the colour of both. If you use this method you will need more feathers, but it would look gorgeous and authentic. If you think about it, if it were centuries ago, this is how they would have made it :) Wish you luck!
