I don't expect there will be many arguments in favor of Lunge and Slash, but Combat Roll is useful for positioning enemies in front of you, and it does clear status effects. It's also the only way I can avoid things like the ice mines from the despair demons.

Payback Strike also clears status effects, hits in an arc ( = more chances to crit = more chances to lower cooldown with Flow of Battle), and can be upgraded to Stun.

avoid . . . ice mines from the despair demons.

DD IM's can be dodged with run and jump. You must watch or listen for their attack pattern cast, run and jump to dodge it.

Don't get me wrong, I love CR, the escape artist has many tricks, not just one.

I noticed with ice/fire mines there is usually enough space to walk inbetween them.  Have done that before.  Just be careful or you go BOOM!!

Lunge & Slash requires a bit of practice since its damage is proportional to the distance to the target. Once you get the range perception right, you will quickly get into combat at draw aggro. You will miss sometimes when you misjudge the distance (and feel silly for slashing into thin air 2 ft away from the enemy).

I open with L&S, then use counterstrike? (thats the name or does it elude me?) to get full guard and counter enemy attacks. After I take a few hits I use vengenace strike and once my guard starts to deplete, I use walking fortress. L&S is also a great way to quickly get to and eliminate those pesky archers.
