I did, and usually romance somebody in BioWare games.

Except for DA2 where I don't care much for most of the teammates who aren't Varric.

While it was quite crushing, engaging with Aveline was one of the best and most realistic romantic interests I have seen in games; briefly skimmed or avoided the rest in DA2.

For myself, romance is not the main interest, but can be a pleasing distraction from the somber and darker mood set in the rest of the story.

I did romance in every pt so far (same companion each time but whatevs).

The BSN results will likely have 'yes' hovering around 90%.

I voted but I think results will be skewed as members that regularly come here are hardcore fans who will try romances at least once if not more.

Especially since something like only 50% of players even finish the game (definitely applies to casual, non BSN players) and romances usually finish towards the end. I would assume nearly every person posting on the BSN has finished it at least once.

I watched the ending sequence for character who did not romance anyone and it felt a little empty, even sad,.

I voted "no" of course. The results are no surprise, what I do find surprising is the lack of voters from Japan, Korea and South America

Almost 200 votes, and the result seems pretty consistent, 10 people romance to every 1 who does not.

My first playthrough I was a male human and I romanced Josephine. In my current game I am a female human and am romancing Cullen. Is he the only NPC that has a "sex scene"? I never got one with Josephine. Just curious.

Just wondering how this community reflects the userbase in general, since 26% of people overall who play the game romance.

I think those stats are always off, because it includes everyone who starts a game. The problem is that most gamers don't actually complete games. For most games the completion percentage is well under 50%, even for critically acclaimed GOTY contenders. A lot of people don't complete the romance arcs for Bioware games because the arcs usually conclude near the end game, and a lot of players quit well before then.

I'd be more interested in seeing what percentage of players initiate a romance arc rather than the percentage who completes one. I think that would be a more accurate take on the popularity (or lack thereof) of that sort of content.

Sure, I'd love to see that statistic, but I don't know where such information can be attained (outside Bioware and they are not telling)

I have a question. Do you have to click the heart icon every time to romance someone? Most of the time I hate the response associated with the heart icon and would rather choose something else.

I'm curious to know if that percentage was lower or higher since the internet "journalists" started firing shots at the mass effect 1 liara thing.

I don't believe that is the case. You have to select the heart-shaped option a few times, so the interest is established and then again in conversations that 1) May potentially rule off this romance (Blackwall, for instance, puts you in this situation as early as immediately after the acquisition of Skyhold if you flirted with him frequently enough beforehand) or 2) Makes the relationship official.

I hate I can't romance Leliana or Sera (the only character with enough charisma to be a dating material) as a male character. Really? The only romance option for male is a short-haired religious woman with a huge scar on her face and a mediterranian girl with funny accent with who I feel no connection at all?? Come on...

Apparently, Josephine and Solas are the only ones without a sex scene. It makes sense, since they're the ones that seem least likely to want to be sexually active if they're part of a relationship.

Because, I mean... the heart shape icon shows up so early for Cassandra and I don't even know her yet. It really caught me off guard. I figured there would at least be a few conversations before moving to that stage. But it's there in the first conversation you have with her.

Yeah, flirting options come out of the blue with just about every companion. You can flirt with them all in your first conversation except maybe Cole.

LOL. Unless I'm missing something, you can never flirt with Cole.

Yep. The only Bioware game I haven't had a character romance someone in is DA:2

This is the reason I usually don't do romances in Bioware games. From a basic design standpoint, they are so poorly implemented. They might as well replace the heart icon with one that says "Want to ****?" There's no natural progression at all and it seems like very little effort goes into making these romance mini-games into something more substantial. It's the only part of the game where I feel the community has a much greater amount enthusiasm than the people actually making the game.

The first flirting if you can call it that was pretty benign. At least it was for

I worded it like that because I didn't remember. It's been a while. :P

Romance is definitely deemed more important by the vocal part of BioWare's fanbase than the developers themselves. I recall Gaider saying he's not a huge fan of including it in his games, but I could be wrong.

The same can be said of the earliest flirting option with Cassandra. I believe Riven's point is that, regardless of how heavy or not it may be, the Inquisitor at that point in the game does not know enough about their companions in order to have enough interest to make an advance.
