Thank you Allan for your post.  Appreciate the communication.  That is something myself and much of the community desires.

Is there any ETA for the further patches for consoles?

I would love to reinstall the Destruction DLC, but due to the current bugs I have uninstalled it, pending fixes.

Edit1: Hot topic.  Whew!!!

Edit2: I intentionally did not comment on specific content Allan posted.  I knew that either way there would likely be finger pointers and those up in arms.  I am in no way interested in being part of the drama many seem to desire, to live for.  Both the community members and BW would do well to look in the mirror and accept full accountability for who you are, your beliefs, emotional reactions, and resulting behaviours (put yourself in the other's shoes; see other angles).  Remember something very important: despite your mental/emotional model of yourself and life, it's all in your mind, which is changeable, should you so choose.  We are all persons, and you have to give what you want to get (if you are not receiving what you want, look to your own subconscious mind to see what you are actually creating).  We want BW to communicate with us, and be accountable for the product they sold us, and the post-release support, and expansion/s.  We had not been receiving that, hence the community uproar (understandable) which in some cases has gotten out of hand.  BW has resurfaced; for which I am grateful  Let's work with them.  Let's focus on Now.  We can gripe and grudge about the past, or make a choice to free in the Now and move forward.  This is my personal choice, this is who I choose to be.  I have the power of choice in the Now (as do you), and choose to direct my energies towards creating what I do want, rather than berating/bitching/complaining about what I don't want.

Edit 3: Thanks BW for responding regarding console patching.  Please keep us in the loop.  I love DAIMP and want the fixes and more content ASAP.  :)

Let's not dog pile Allan for being the messenger (especially when his point is about dog piling on the devs who come here).

We know that you guys want to see more communication from the devs and more transparency in what we're doing and why, and that's something we need to work on.

Please also don't misunderstand what Allan was getting at: You are totally welcome to give us feedback and to talk to us about what you'd like to see more/less/changed/tweaked/what have you. Your feedback is an invaluable resource to the dev team.

What we can't be having, whether it's against a developer or another poster, is folk making personal attacks against one another.

Telling me "I don't like how this class or feature works" or "I think this thing is broken, and you should take a look at it" is perfectly acceptable.

Telling me that I am a thieving liar who sleeps in a cave full of money like some kind of dragon is obviously not okay.

There's no reason we can't be respectful of one another while were on here. Let's also please avoid pointing fingers at one another in the wake of all of this and focus instead on what we all can do to have better interactions between our developers and the community.

Thanks so much for posting on the thread. And I'm not looking to shoot the messenger. I'm just wondering about the things Mr. Schumacher did not address. I think a canned PR post like the one he put up is a decent start, but not very effective at mending whatever wounds are going on in this community.
Other devs like you posting and interacting with us is how this community is going to move forward.

For that, I salute you.

I can understand how someone might feel that I was blaming it entirely on the forum. I did take a particularly strong stance because my job for the past few months has been researching and assessing ways to increase dev interaction with the forum. I don't consider it a good thing when I or another dev would rather talk about game issues in another space.  The immediate consequence, based on discussions I had with other devs, other fans from the forum, and even people down at PAX South, was that the weekend events were having a discouraging effect on engagement from people in those groups. This isn't just bad for devs, it is bad for other fans.

Given that our dev interaction in our forum is voluntary, my post was as much publicly communicating that how things had played out was very compromising to that end. For myself it meant reflection on how we consider our interactions and providing that feedback when I was able to return to Edmonton. Especially since my own posting history and the posting history of other devs was referenced.

I agree that my post uses safe language, and I agree that that's not the best solution. My preference is that devs try to speak as candidly as possible and to the best of my ability I try to interact in that way when I am here.  Given the circumstances, however, we needed to take a strong line that however we got to where we were before the weekend, what happened then isn't a reliable solution. As long as dev interaction is voluntary, BioWare needs to make sure that devs feel safe posting otherwise everyone loses. I can be a victim of this as well as I personally felt reticent to post because some felt that my engagement in one thread was unfair to issues of another thread.  And I do mean everyone loses, because I have continued posting on the forum somewhat regularly since March 2012 because in general I actually kind of enjoy it and you all can be a lot of fun sometimes!  It's also very valuable to connect with fans about certain issues and various types of feedback. This is valuable for both the devs and the fans for sure.  For myself it also has a humanizing affect a lot of the times.

Part of the challenge with voluntary interaction, though, is that it means that I'll have a tendency to self select where I post (I have stated before I have a huge bias to view threads I've already posted in, simply because I tend to click on those ones more).  Maybe this means, at least on some level, there should be more mandatory interaction? Maybe this means evaluating how the voluntary posts happen? Maybe it needs to be more closely monitored so that we can step in before we have groups of the fanbase getting to the point that they did. With that comes the checks and balances: if we have more mandatory posting, we still need to make sure that the devs that are interacting feel safe. The alternative, I feel, means too much PR speak and not enough candidness, which can often still be aggravating because then, as some have taken my post, it seems like I'm still talking past you which certainly doesn't help the matter out at all for a lot of people.

But I did feel it was necessary to quickly pull things back from where they were and to be direct in resetting the forum discussion away from where it was.  I don't think that this makes the voiced concerns of the forum invalid, nor is the desire for improved interaction with BioWare unreasonable.

Clearly there was a breakdown and it's never entirely one party's fault. Some people were are feeling neglected and ignored. But lets move this in another direction going forward and away from how things played out a few days ago.  Part of that indeed means that I'll be spending more time here as well. Sounds like Conal will be as well.

To mirror Allan's point, and to re-iterate something I said in a previous post - I also enjoy interacting with our fans, even in these forums, and the reason I'm here is because of the positive impact meeting our fans has had on me during the dev cycle and even post launch. When I visited a number of PAX events last year we were in the middle of serious crunch, and knowing that people really care lifted my spirits and helped me soldier through to November. Our fans are unique, and awesome, more passionate and creative than any other and I really appreciate them, you, yes you : )

To touch on the things that happened over the weekend - The reality is that not everyone is always going to like what I or other employees have to say when we post here, and when that happens forum goers are expected to handle it in a mature and civil manner. To put the matter to rest, no one on these forums is going to get anyone fired. Furthermore, as others have well explained I think its unfortunate what happened. I respected Penguin as a community member and really appreciated his contributions to the forum. His behavior crossed a number of lines from which there was no turning back and in response he's no longer welcome here. When I commented on his behavior it was to highlight the stark change that I am sincerely saddened by, to say that it was a personal attack is grasping for conflict where none exists.

As Allan has said, our team should be better about communicating about patches and patch notes and I'm sorry that we've not delivered yet on that front. I was attempting to fill the community in by asking the dev team questions, and posting explanations for the key and pot issues, but those things should have been better spelled out originally in the patch notes so that my interaction wasn't required on those fronts.

One last quick thing - Please be excellent to eachother, I know I say that a lot but these forums are not your average run of the mill gaming forum. They are the BioWare official forums, and provide a unique chance to interact with the developers of your favorite games. To be a part of this community is a privilege, your behavior is going to be held to a higher standard, forum goers must expect that and must expect it from eachother.

Thanks,
Amelia

Note: I tidied up the thread somewhat to keep from things derailing based on some older posts that I felt were derailing to the thread.

I think it is great that you guys are trying to figure out the best, most appropriate way to interact with this community.  However, we are fans which is short for "fanatic" and can be overly impassioned bunch.

Agreed that people can be intense/passionate, and that that isn't bad in and of itself. It conveys investment which I think we all want from our games. It's always a fine line to balance and part of what I've been frantically researching on is trying to find ways to empower our users to help everyone curate an area that they feel comfortable discussing in. But I digress and that isn't specifically related to this thread :)

I am glad devs starting to  use again official forum for communication with fans,so I wanna ask Mr. Schumacher can we expect comeback of balance changes thread like we had in ME3MP?

At 1:30 AM from home I'm afraid I do not have an answer to this! I'll touch base with the MP team tomorrow to see if they can get Conal or myself some details so that we can let people know what has changed.

Nothing confirmed yet, but I know we were considering having a sticky thread that was "just the facts" with the information (no discussion) for quick reference to anyone coming in, while allowing another thread to exist for fans to talk/give feedback etc. I know this type of exchange works for me when I follow games myself, and I think it might be similar to what Mass Effect did with their MP?  I'll have more information for you tomorrow (I have an appointment in the morning so I likely won't see the thread again until tomorrow afternoon my time).

Same goes for your matchmaking inquiry.

I edited the thread title to make it a bit clearer. I appreciate the "thanks" but it's not really necessary. I also added a link to this thread to the sticky post.

edit: Have they resolved the RTC and key glitch?

The mini patch that happened contained our other major fix to the key-drop glitch. There is still an instance we've seen once in a blue moon where a teleporting enemy will teleport outside of the bounds of the level to a place where they're not allowed, causing the players to be unable to find them, but for the most part the key-drop problem should be very uncommon from here on out. I've seen a number of posts from people confirming that this is the case.

Could you give us some information regarding the two most annoying game-breaking bugs that currently exist in MP:

1 - The infinite black loading screen when starting a game whose host is away from you (it happens 100% of the time when the ping time is above a certain threshold - very easy to reproduce)

2 - The impossible to move bug when joining an already in progress game, which seems to happen around 50% of the time (to me at least). This one doesn't seem directly related to lag/ping time.

Are you working on them? Will they be fixed? Can you at least confirm that you are aware of them? These two bugs makes the MP experience really, really frustrating.

We are able to reproduce both of these bugs internally. I found that they are both timing related and happen most often during low-bandwidth, high latency, or unstable latency internet environments. If you're playing at a time where the player pool is small enough that there aren't a lot of hosts to connect to these issues will be more prevalent. We are working on a solution.

On PC.....Any news on when we can expect something for consoles?

Soon.  I don't like commenting on precise patch times because it can be hard to predict and it only leads to disappointment when the time/date slips.  But you can rest assured that we are working hard to bring these stability improvements to all platforms as soon as possible.

Also I want to point out that at least on PC, there is a discrepancy between my personal prestige points and my points on the leaderboard, with the latter lagging 8 points behind. I understand leaderboard is pointless to a lot of people but would like to see if this issue is prevalent and whether devs are aware of it.

We are aware of this issue and have a fix for it.  You should see this live in the near future, with the leaderboards re-synchronizing properly with your personal prestige points.

Eh, might as well ask this here. The worst thing that could happen is that I won't get an answer, as it has been since launch.

We were promised schematics. Where are the schematics?

When I saw the last weekend challenge with the community goal and victory chest, I actually got my hopes up for a few days. Then I found out that it was just another chest of disappointment with a fancy name. The loot system is an abomination right now, weapons lazily copied and pasted from singleplayer without all the crafting possibilities. I am the "proud" owner of eight Longbows of the Griffon, sitting on a mountain of materials that are completely useless to me. There is no sense of progression and close to no variety, due to ability damage being tied to weapon base damage which is tied to weapon level.

I have sat through countless key bugs, black loading screens, disconnects, disconnect loops, crashes to desktop, empty hotbar, immobility upon joining, entrances to Narnia, host incompatibilities, australian tier lag to people on my continent and countless in-game glitches, yet the terrible loot system and the complete lack of improvement so far was the last straw that made me stop playing and caring about the game in it's current state.

Schematics were mentioned as something we'd like to give out for weekend challenges in the future. We've been actively working towards that goal, but unforeseen difficulties as well as higher priority issues have delayed this feature a bit. I can't say for certain that they will eventually come, it may turn out to be way more trouble than its worth and we'll seek another way to reward you guys in a cool way, but we are actively working on these.

Also devs if you want us to take the leaderboards seriously then remove the cheaters from it please. I don't care if they can still play the game afterwards but they shouldn't be allow to take legitimate players spots. That's fubar.

Agreed. Really sorry about that. We're aware of the cheaters, its not hard to miss them at the top of the leaderboards. Cheaters will be dealt with eventually but right now the process we're taking to deal with them is waiting on an external team.

The only time I really run into the bug now is when a giant is present. It appears it happens when the giant is killed while rising from his knees he then stands motionless then disappears causing the key to not drop. Anyone know if this is a known issue?

Thats really interesting. I'll forward this to the designer that was looking at the issue and see if we can find something.

Reading the OP, fair point that this thread may not have been created specifically to address my post. Apologies for not touching base first before. It might have been better to have to created my own thread, but at this point it may be c'est la vie?  Let me know.  In any case, I do appreciate the thread's creation as it has helped facilitate some communication!

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to touch base in this thread yesterday like I had hoped. Busy day for me and all, but we do have new patch notes posted. The notes thread is here, while the discussion thread is here.

As stated in the thread, continued fixes for the MP key issue have come and are live for PC, and hopefully next week for the consoles.

Thanks (I'm still back a few pages reading the thread and am getting a chance to do so now!)

I made another small change to the title. As this thread is in the MP section it's intention is to be a bit more MP focus. A lot of this is still sort of "play by ear" in terms of organization as we look on getting information for patch notes and balance notes and stuff like that.

I know it seems like we're just ignoring other users with issues in other aspects of the game. I've actually received PMs from late last year stating it was unfair of me to be favouring the PC users because I spent an evening in that thread talking, or that I only cared about banter issues, and as such we're ignoring the consoles or MP concerns. The joys of being one of a handful of people. I could have been helping out Conal a bit more as I was working on more behind the scenes stuff but as I'm not actually assigned specifically to the DA franchise at the moment, I started to back away a bit because on some level I just didn't have the answers and it was seeming like my continued presence posting was perhaps antagonizing others.

Maybe that's my inexperience as aside from a couple weeks after launch helping with support my engagement on the forums was limited (in general it was a lot easier for me to take things much more personally and I had some really vile stuff thrown at me for both DAO and DA2 - the worst actually coming from DAO, so for my own sanity I moved on).

Yes there's me paying a bit more attention in this section right now (before this I don't know if I spent any time here), on some level because this is where a flashpoint happened and my goal was first and foremost deescalation. I think that that has been achieved and it does send a reinforcement that maybe I can be more proactive myself, even if it's just facilitating data collection that we're able to share with you guys regarding questions and whatnot.

Friendly player collision is literally the best reason to play a stealth class right now.

No more getting stuck behind that player that doesn't know sprint exists. xD

Hahaha, I'm totally the guy that always forgets to use that....

One thing that I think would help the community would be a clarification on how you would like us to report issues that we find in the game.  Would the devs prefer a PM, a post on these boards or a report through the EA channel?

Digitally the best place is probably the EA Answers board, found here: http://answers.ea.co...p/DAInquisition

Part of this is because the team there also spends time collecting data from various social media as well as even old school phone calls to best gauge the prevalence/severity of some issues.  My understanding is that the forums themselves are just a slice of the feedback (I'm not informed with how big of a slice).
