Good point. I guess I'll give it a try in the future, since the game is super cheap now on Steam, so even if I don't like it I guess won't lose much.
Supervalue. If you make it through the tutorial and a bit further, and are not intrigued then this is not the game for you. I suggest to get that far before you give up atleast.
I remember when I first played it, the character creation screen looked like something from an RPG from the early 90's so I was naturally sceptical, and I had a really hard time at the beginning - as once you finish the tutorial you can basically go several different pathways, and I chose to try a route that was seriously out of my league. The monsters I encountered was even immune to my weapon. Once I figured out what way to go, and got properly started on my journey I really fell in love with the game and the graphics.
The thing about it is that a lot of the time you have several different options available to you on what directions to go - some areas doesnt even have to be visited to complete the game - but fill in some story gaps and can give you secret items and events. The game is full of secrets and shortcouts back and forth, so a guy who knows what he's doing can shortcut his way through the game in little over an hour, while you first playthrough might take even a month. And regarding secrets: they arent like you see in normal games these days. They will tell you about it and point to it with an arrow, while in Dark Souls, a secret really is a secret (until you read about it on the wiki that is). I played this game for three months and there are still things that I havent seen in it.
Also, there are people still playing this - both as an SP and for that Singleplayer PVP intergration. You can actually hunt people down in their own singleplayer games, by invading their game etc. I wont say much more about it, but there are of course an option to avoid it. Which also has meaning according to the singleplayer story. This is something I have never seen before in any SP game. There are so many cool details here, you've never seen before, it's simply amazing.
So go ahead, try it out - you got nothing to loose.
