I'll just start out by commending the team for not having an omi-button in this game. That being said, as a console player, I think having A/X to confirm ground-target spell is a poor choice. The number of times in MP where I have slight lag and jump instead of casting a spell... well, it isn't a fun time. Currently it just seems to be a clunky and slow to cast these spells, so I have a couple suggestions.
First, is to have the button that initiates the cast also confirm the spell.
This not only gets rid of the situation where you accidentally jump and cancel the spell, either due to lag or being too quick to hit the confirm button, but it also feels more fluid. Instead of pressing one button and then another, you just use the same one twice.
Second, have a toggle option to allow certain spells to be cast immediately instead of having to position and confirm.
For offensive spells, I'll use the example of Immolate and Lightning Strike. They essentially do the same thing with different elements, but you only have to manually place Immolate, while Lightning Strike casts immediately on the target. The change would have both spells act like Lightning Strike.
For defensive spells, I guess we really only have Barrier. With this change, it would just be cast on yourself and everyone in range would still get the benefit. In the heat of the moment it really breaks the flow of battle to manually cast, and it is worse when the cast is broken by an untimely jump.
This change would not affect any of the "trap" spells: ice mine, fire mine, fire wall, pull of the abyss, static cage, disruption field. It also would not affect dispel since it has both offensive and defensive aspects.
This is really just a personal gripe of mine and can be solved by slowing down a little bit, but I feel these QoL changes would fit right in for the faster pacing of the multiplayer.
