I miss being able to select: the humorous option.

When I picked a dialogue option in DA2: it had emotion to it, and the characters actually reacted to the personality. In Inquisition, no matter what I pick: it's always bland diplomatic goody-two-shoes. Hawke may have been in inquisition for a brief cameo, but the personality always seemed 'angry at wardens'.

Inquisition, caters too much to much to the hardcore sef-insert/roleplayers. It's not balanced, and forgets the players who don't want to make all of the P.C themselves.

I would like to see the Hawke/DA2 personality system return in DA4. Not the exact same, give it some room for the self-insert/hardcore rpers. Just don't just use the 'it's slightly different dialogue' but the same goodie goodie personality, that Inquisition had..

I wish I could have left the inquisitor in the fade  <_<

I was hoping there would at least be one of those cool mage-execution cutscenes DA2 had for my mage Hawke, like the one with the High Dragon or Corypheus. That would have been a way to go.

nothing beats the options the warden has.

Remember the first encounter in lothering?

Warden: "Beat it sister, let this man exploit people's suffering"

Merchant "thanks for dealing with her, now for the promised discount"

Warden: "I think ill just take it all" *slits merchants throat instead*

Oh gawd will these kinda options ever come back :(

Yeah, that would have been a way to go, indeed. It seems like BioWare drop the ball on this one as well, whether it's Stroud/Alistair/Loghain or Hawke their last stand scene should be epic. The entire scene could have been a little longer, and more dramatic IMO. Warrior or Rogue Hawke should fight like there's no tomorrow, and Mage Hawke with all the power in their fingertips should unleash everything he/she got on that spider thing...NOT whack it with a stick....geeze.

They could take a note from this scene. It's more powerful than what we already have.

Hawke's sarcastic personality is great. It's a shame the DA:I sarcasm is much more muted

While I felt that some of the Hawke's lines were well-written and amusing, the system itself was pretty bad. You had to pick one personality and stick with it the whole game no matter what. Paraphrases were vague as hell and his responses were too colourful, so there was pretty much no way to successfully mix the dialogue options without metagame knowledge. Unless you were fine with your character sounding like he has a severe personality disorder or something. DA:I is much better in that regard, still has nothing on DA:O, but that's understandable, because HoF was not voiced.

Best line in Dragon Age.

The advantage of having a non-voiced PC. I always loved meeting King Cailan as a Dalish Elf, he politely asks your name and you reply "I'm no friend of yours, human Lord.", then when he compliments the Dalish on their skill "Too bad the same can't be said about yours."

Dalish elf is having none of it.

I do kind of like how the emotion wheel often affects the Inquisitor's expression for more than just that one sentence. If you take a sad option they will look upset for a while, for instance. And other places, too - as a Qunari you can, in the initial Iron Bull recruitment convo, take issue with his being Ben-Hassrath, and your quizzy will look angry and mistrustful for the rest of the conversation.

As for Hawke, it's true that every Hawke is angry at blood mages and bitter about failing to defeat Corypheus, but their personalities still shine through. Aggressive Hawke is especially angry, Sarcastic Hawke will still crack jokes every so often, and diplomatic Hawke will for instance, ask their Warden friend if they're okay when they find out they're affected by the Calling, too (at least they did with Alistair).

I agree that the DA2 personality system needed work, but  what they have done with Inquisition is just lame. You can't even be an evil inquisitor, in Inquisiton, and don't even get me started on the lack of sarcasm.

Well some of us liked the personality sets, and I don't see why the entire system had to go completely in the other direction. I agree the DA2 system needed more room for the hardcore RPers, but to remove it completely was just shi*ty.

Of course the DA 2 personality system should return. Will it? I'm not holding my breath for that would make too much sense, and we can't have things making sense now can we :) + 10 for leaving Inquisitor in the fade priceless. Hawke ftw, Hawke for life.

It's pretty obvious, that Hawke uses humour as a mask, and as a coping mechanisim in those situations. Because you know, people with personalities react differently to difficult situations, and not just: bland goodie goodie 'omgawd thats awful oh no..'

Yeah and beside ya can have that with the Noble Hawke . And some companions like Sebastian and such can fill that role anyway....for that extra sobbing moment .

I disliked the personalty system. It didn't worked at all for me. My hawk sounded like he was insane. Only having three options in dialog are not a good system imo.

Agreed, OP.

Sarcastic Hawke = God.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard during a video game in my life.

In fact, other than the copious amounts of blood splatter... sarcastic Hawke's lines made up for the repetitive environments.

That "boneless women" line (can't remember it word for word) was gold.

Also, talking to the desire demon during Sebastian's quest.... faaaaaaaark.

I dunno... I guess it's cause sarcastic Hawke shares my irl sense of humour which allowed me to connect with her in game, enhancing the enjoyment I got out of DA:2. Another thing, romancing Isabela.... oh man, the chemistry!

Other than the fact that Isabela probably banged half of Kirkwall, that pretty much sums up my "ideal" relationship... humour, chemistry, sexual tension, the works.

Agreed on the lack of the evil path. Hovewer many other problems lie in the guidelines the VA's were apparently given. It looks like they asked them to be absolutely neutral in their tone, which led to deadpan delivery you mentioned(although I didn't think the English VA was that bad). Surely some lines had more potential to convey sarcasm, it's just the VA's seemed too stiff. It sort of reminds me of ME 1 where Shepard was mostly bland, but that changed as the series went on and tuned out great in ME3 imo, while the dialogue responses were still possible to mix. Don't know why they didn't use this experience here. Because mostly neutral writing and more lively delivery(stil not as lively as in DA2) could've worked out great.
