If you watch closely after leaving them behind, you'll see them fall in battle. It broke my heart to see my warrior Hawke taken down so easily and after only a few slashes of their blade.

Yeah, but they could still end up being possessed. If their dead, their corpse could be possessed. Would be cool/disturbing to see Hawke's possessed corpse come walking towards you in an expansion/sequel.

Do they? I just played through the sequence again yesterday and left Stroud behind, and I didn't see him actually fall.

My Hawke has survived the fade before she can do it again. ![]()

I saw Hawke kneel just before it faded to black. Doesn't guarantee he's dead though.

Hawke deserves to die for whacking a giant monster with a staff.

In old D&D games (showing my age) If you killed something on their plane of existence they were dead.
All those demons on the material plane come back eventually. Maybe they have old schools like me who wrote that into the Nightmare demon. Same don't apply to mortals though, no matter how much I loved my Hawke I couldn't kill Alistair ![]()

If I find out Hawke died in Weisshaupt and Stroud lived I will riot.
Then go to keep and alter DA reality.
That's abuse of godly power man! ![]()

Yeah maybe.
We didn't kill the nightmare though. We fought and killed an "Aspect of the nightmare", the nightmare itself was the monstrous spider that may or may not have killed hawke/a warden.
Alistair was king in my playthrough(thankfully) so my choice was between Hawke and Stroud! I still chose Hawke though, cause he seemed to really want to do this, and you know, emotional impact. ![]()

When will the keep be functional to see your DA:I choices?

I see what looks like a big spidery limb go through Stroud's torso.
None of these things have ever stopped Bioware from raising the dead though. Right Leliana?

I thought the giant spider was an Easter egg of Ungoliant from Tolkien's Silmarillian Dang nabbit. I am really bad at finding real Easter Eggs in games.

I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow lived. We'll see in DA4.

I kind of hope they don't use it though.
A knight enchanter could have been taken nightmare demon though whilst the rest clapped politely drinking tea and eating scones.

intrestingly, when leliana asks about alistars death in the fade the inquisitor responds to something along the lines off ' i dont think they are dead..just stuck in the fade'Yeah maybe.

Hawke is too badass to die!!!!!!! Especially Sarcastic Hawke!!!!!!
That being said according to the choice it said Hawke or the Warden will probably die, so don't be surprised if they appear in some form in the next game.

Seeing that Hawke has a 50% chance of being left in the fade and a 100% guarantee of disappearing in weisshaupt who knows what they'll do to him/her.
There doesn't seem to be much outcry regarding Hawke being left in the fade. Maybe they'll leave that open-ended or whoever gets left behind in the fade becomes a vessal for the Nightmare

Really? Interesting, yet another thing that indicates we'll see them again!

I think all you can really say is that they left the door open by not definitively showing the person you leave behind dying. Doesn't mean we'll ever see them again. Just that they left open that possibility because... why not?

After 90 hours of play, I finally reached this quest myself. And after thinking I realized that it probably doesn't matter who you leave. 2 lines in the next game is all it needs
New PC - Hawke?! I thought you disspeared into the fade/at Weisshaupt?
Hawke - (Diplomatic)I'm not actually sure/It's complicated, but we need to focus on the new big bad here right now(Sarcastic)I'm the Champion, nothing can hold me down man(Agressive)Mind your own buisness.
Or if you they want to give you an actual straight answer, then after the Inquisitor left the Warden/Hawke ran from the Nightmare. And by coincidence found another rift to leave though, and through double coincidence that rift let him out at the gates of Weisshaupt.
