Hello,

I've recently moved to the DAMP team in order to help with the weekend challenges and will be working closely with the designers to produce fun and challenging... challenges.

Last week we brought online "community challenges" as well as continuing with a personal challenge each weekend. Going forward I would like to know what fun challenges you would like to see.

There will also be a Challenge FAQ posted soon for anyone that has questions in regards to loot, times, etc.

Also, check us out every Friday at 11am PST on Twitch for the Weekend Challenge Kickoff! Myself and another Dev will be on Xbox One joining random matches and inviting people to our party to play and chat.  We are planning on expanding times and platforms in the future and will keep you updated as we do.

Now with all that out of the way, throw your challenge ideas and feedback at me!

The biggest thing that I saw that wasn't "good" off the weapon challenges were the kills as opposed to damage. Only one person gets a "kill" everyone can cause damage. the game works so much better when people try and play as a team and having goals that are focused on something as distinct and individual as the kills caused a lot of bad games for me that weekend.

I would also add that the weapon challenges were also limited in a lot of ways if you either didn't have anyone unlocked who used said weapon or you only had sorry versions of those. Again, you want to get the broadest possible participation not eliminate some participants - and I'm guessing you were hoping to drive people to get those classes and weapons off those but given the random part of the RNG loot it was more frustrating that fun..

Special events that are meaningful or interesting, whether loot or actual 'challenge'.

Dragons. Qunari. Darkspawn. Demon Rift Invasions. Heck, an all animal replacement, Zone 5 with the Demon Commander surrounded by Wolves in place of Lesser Shades, and the Venatori Commander supported by tiny dinosaurs in place of footsoldiers. Mix up the spawn types. Even let crossover happen between different factions. A "Random" option that randomizes enemy spawn list drawing between all three factions. That'd be fun and interesting.

I would like for the victory chests to be meaningful. Guaranteed blue / rare weapon results in addition to random, or tiered rewards like the Heroes of Dragon Age app reward for community driven rewards would be awesome.

Hypothetical themed weekend event:

Here's your critical chance challenge

Reward: Gain +5% critical chance ring + Stuff.

Other example: +5% Heal on Kill ring, Belt of health, cooldown amulet, specific weapon rewards for weapon challenges, etc

Some people absolutely want/need the themed gear, especially early on, driving them and their friends to look forward to and want to complete the challenges.

I agree I think a little bit of imagination would go a long way.

Plenty of mmos offer a grinding experience. The kill x number challenges offer no more of an engaging experience than a collect 500 elf root weekend challenge would on sp.

I believe group challenges that involve particular bosses or battles would be dinner. I do not know how hard it would be to code or how buggy it would be but it would be worth a try.

Get some feedback from some of the ME3MP people.

Some ones I enjoyed, challenges for specific classes or races.  (All dwarf challenge thus legionaires, assassins, alchemist everywhere).

Challenges for certain enemies with a penalty for not making it having those enemies in every faction for the next week.  For ME3MP when we failed the banshee kill challenges they put banshees in with every faction the next week.

IMO, the challenge chest should contain something lucrative similar to what it were with N7 weapons in ME3. It does not have to be powerful but should be unique and not available through normal random loot/chests. For example, +1 potion/grenade capacity belt would be nice. Or helmets maybe?

General thoughts:

- avoid grind challenges

- designed so they can be soloed, but optimally in a team

- different from built-in challenges

- unique from normal game

- rewards should be either a fixed item, fixed level or unique

Obviously we have to consider development time, so things like dragons might be trickier, but changing spawn rates of existing enemies should be comparatively easy.

For example theme a "Demon invasion", with much increased chance of demons as enemies, and either more enemies, or increased higher tiered enemies (replacing wraiths with fear demons etc).  With challenges (sadly) related to team kills, extractions or zones completed, but preferably a special boss Demon Commander, or a demonic giant fight.

Rewards could be like a chest with at least X guaranteed cards of Y level, or say an anti-demon weapon, or a schematic of demon killing (e.g.: runes from single player).

If an event is meant to be memorable, make it so from the requirements and rewards.

Longer term more content is needed, which could enable better challenges.  Such as lifting the Hinterlands dragon fight entirely as a MP challenge.

Or the "Red Water" quest area.  Fight along the Storm Coast to the Red Templar caves, and take the boat to the dragon island, to fight a dragon there.

If 360/PS3 can't handle rendering some of the smaller discrete single player areas, maybe you should drop support (much like Diablo 3) for some of these areas, and alternate with challenges which they can do in existing content.

I actually found the 'friendly rivalry' between the platforms on the loot challenge quite motivating.

If the targets were 'balanced' to reflect the active player numbers on each platform even more precisely, that could be a lot of fun.

Yes, something like extract with dwarf character 5 times regardless of difficulty? Or 5 times on routine/3 times on silver/1 time on gold? Or with a mage character? Or with an elven character?

Last weekend wasn't really good - it wasn't the challenge thing. I found that actually kind of motivative. No it was some grindy feeling about trying hit a working lobby. I have encountered fuzzy Matchmaking in other games, but it's never been as consistently bad as in DAMP.

I haven't really logged in after - not even for the victory chest.

Now with all that out of the way, throw your challenge ideas and feedback at me!

Well, hello there and welcome! It's very heartening to see you reaching out for feedback on future weekend challenges. I absolutely adored participating in those during ME3MP and wept inside when the support had to end.

I'll make suggestions as best as I can, since I don't know what new things you have planned to eventually roll out, what your coding capabilities are on the backend to even feasibly pull certain things off or not, and what we currently have is fairly basic at the moment.

First off, having something tangible to work towards in the Victory Chest for the community challenge would be fantastic. Being just a glorified large chest is... nice, but ultimately not very thrilling. Something that really motivated the ME3MP challenges was KNOWING you'd get an ultra-rare weapon upgrade. Now, it might not be for the weapon you wanted, but you knew you'd get something that was otherwise hard to make RNG drop for you in the store. So, maybe guaranteeing something really super-awesome would be good to work towards. Or something unique, such as increasing potion capacity. I remember starting life in ME3MP with just 2 of everything and it felt like pure gold when you completed a weekend challenge and knew everybody was now gonna be able to go to max 3 medigels... or max 4 rockets... up to 6 on all consumable capacities. It felt like a real reward.

Secondly, I was a big sucker for the themed challenges. Some of my most memorable were when you had to extract as a group with at least one member using a character from the latest DLC (that kept me hopping lobbies all weekend with my one newly-unlocked character just to hand out commendation packs to everyone who extracted with me... I was on an Oprah Winfrey binge of "You get a commendation pack and YOU get a commendation pack.... everyone's gettin' commendation packs!" :D Or another time when you all had to be the same race.

So, in that vein, I think it would be cool to see a challenge where you all need to be dwarves... or elves... etc. Or in the same vein, an all-warrior party or all-rogue party or all-mage party. NOW, with that being said... there is the issue of not wanting to miss out on treasure room doors which, as we all know, usually means you need one of each class in the group. But if for the weekend challenge of, say, all-warriors, you could actually code something on the backend so that all treasure room doors would be the brick-smash-warrior ones juuuuust for the duration of the challenge, I could see folks not really having an issue with it (other than those who just may not care for that particular class).

Could also have challenges revolving around picking certain maps or, say, trying to kill a certain number of a certain enemy... and then ensuring people have the opportunity to do so by making sure that enemy has a higher chance of spawning (especially since we cannot choose what faction we fight).

I'll also admit to being a sucker for banners as challenge rewards. Was really nice to earn that N7 Loyalist one, for example, or the final one in ME3MP.

My first thought is definitely to challenge us. Maybe not quite "Lodestar" yet, but I definitely think that once the key bug is hammered down on all platforms, it would be good to set up both an individual and community challenge involving Perilous.

I don't know the telemetry of what number would make a good community challenge for it, so I won't guess, but I suspect being part of a team that gets "operation successful" on Perilous for each map would make sense as an individual challenge.

I haven't even played Perilous, yet.

Make me Perilous, BW!

I gonna call the new guy "Fizz" because... well because I have no friggin clue what his username means.

Challenges:
1. Nude day at the beach - Complete X amount of games wearing only your default gear and weapons.

2. Beat a Developer - Beat a BW developer in a random PUG match for a free Rare/Uni (and none of that cheap stuff either).

3. Fashionesta - Beat X amount of games wearing X amount of different armor (can be done of different weeks for each kit).

4. DragonSlayer - Kill 25 Dragons. Pretty simple. We know you're adding dragons.

5. No man left behind - 25 games completed with all players surviving. (can also be set as a recurring challenge of X amount for Prestige points).

6. Last man standing - Be the only player to survive the operation (can be set as a recurring challenge of X amount for Prestige points).

7. I'm Not as Think as You Drunk I Am - Use X amount of potions in games.

8. Everybody Love Caltrops - Slow down 100,000 enemies using caltrops (each platform).

9. That's the Spirit - Make 500,000 kills using a Spirit Marked familiar (each platform).

10. Beat X amount of games using Y kits.

11. You're Such a Pacifist -  Beat X amount of games using only the default abilities and passive skills.

12. XPrunning> Looting - Beat X amount games on each difficulty without collecting loot under Y amount of time.

13. Looting>XPrunning - Collect EVERY chest and vase on the map before completing mission.

14. See if you can make it through the week without me making you want to cry.

oh and... Welcome to DAMP.

A challenge idea I have is: Kill X amount of enemies using a weapon item level 15 or lower so we can put to use some of those uniques that are collecting dust...

As far as rewards go I would like to see schematics so we can craft our own items in MP....

I would like weekend challenges that build upon previous ones, to give week over week a semi-cohesive story the MP devs are telling.

Since I do suspect there is a Deep Roads/Darkspawn DLC already on the books, an example might be 'rescue grey warden/dwarven deep roads expedition' captured by Venatori. Using existing game mechanics, we have to protect a dwarven npc through waves 2-5 (we find him in 2).

To turn that into the community challenge, we have to get X total across all platforms, and this leads up to the unlocking of the new DLC.

Very bare-bones, skeletal from just a quick idea.

The TL;DR; version... make each weekly challenge seem to build upon previous ones. Leading to what I would really like to see is some creative story writing to go along with the weekly challenges that give us a reason for what we are doing. And even if only cosmetic, the idea that the challenge 'changed' the game when we succeed.

Right now you face some significant limitations on the challenges you can offer.

(1) Game-ending glitches that prevent people from making progress towards the challenge. The key glitch is the most notorious, but also Wave 5 glitches that keep you from completing the match (very prevalent with Red Templar Commander).

The ramification is that any challenge that involves completing a match must be considered very carefully, because there are events outside the player's control that can prevent match completion.

(2) Inability to select enemy faction. In ME3 you could do themed challenges around different enemy types and tie it into the game's lore (Reapers are invading Planet X, or Geth land on Planet Y). In DAI you cannot do the same thing, because the players cannot control which enemy they face.

Until you give the players control over enemy factions please DO NOT give use challenges involving the specific enemy types.

(3) Lots of stuff is already being tracked by the in-game Challenge system. The in-game Challenge system is cool, but it does mean that people are going to be bored by that kind of stuff if used as a Weekend Challenge.

(4) The loot system limits what incentives you can offer people. Thanks to the completely random nature of the loot system ANY existing item that you give out has the potential to already be owned. Thus what seemed like an awesome reward on the surface (Superb Belt of Health! Superb Cooldown Amulet!) could be totally uninteresting to some players, because they already have that item.

Mainly I just want the challenges to remain cooperative. Kill challenges were competitive.

I think the difficulty is about right. Maybe even a little on the too-difficult side. It's so hard to find time with two kids... If people want to flex their e-peens, they can find another way. These should stay accessible to everyone.

Only major thing i can really think of to make weekend events more fun is targeting them so they progress quicker as a group.

I personally don't see the appeal of playing a MP game alone.

Weekend events also shouldnt always be so straight forward. The events shouldnt always completed just by doing a normal run.

Something like "break every pot in a play through, including those in treasure rooms" could be fun.

Or even add in new objects for weekend challenges.

Yay! Thanks for looking in to ask for feedback. First thoughts are that this could be pretty tough as the current way the game works doesn't seem conducive to the most interesting challenges without some sort of additional content added to use with it. The grind X kills have been boring, while the community challenge was much better (although - and I haven't read all the posts) it would be great to see a failure added as I think Beerfish mentioned with the Banshees on ME3, I remember that.

(Also, we has some sort of issue with the PC, or so it seemed, can we sort that so it can't bug out/be hacked - the best thing about the community challenge was to see how well we could all go about it. In that vein, perhaps you could give us a community challenge task that provides a target dead on proportional to each systems activity to date - in that the 'winner' of the challenge gave over and above what was asked. (no penalty for coming in later, bragging rights is enough). I'm on PC, btw, apologies to those who perhaps thought I was soloing Xbox 360.

O)f the existing 'kill x' types, gaining x combos is the only one that is remotely interesting (and, no, I don't get combos generally, so I'd have to change my ways).

Other than that, I'd like to see a horde-like challenge (aside from room 5) where we have to survive for x minutes on each difficulty...

Yeah, this isn't so easy at all in the current setup.
