It's possible that he did not know or he underestimated Corypheus. I like the latter.
Why couldn't we kill the Dalish this time around?

It's also possible he intended for Corypheus to use the orb to awaken its powers.
How Solas intended to kill him and reclaim it had the Inquisition not formed, however, is beyond me.

Is the thousand years old Darkspawn from the time when Tevinter ruled the world and who was arrogant and uncaring enough to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of slaves to break into the home of God really the person you'd trust with your immensely powerful Orb of Destruction?
If someone gave nuclear weapons to a terrorist group, I'd certainly wish for that person to be held accountable for their actions.
That's the thing. The plan was to take it way from Cory before he used it. The real problem is the furture quis picked it up with out knowing what it was and....

Teventor may of not of been up and coming at the time. Added, it's better then having thedus turn into a waste land.
Yes, we do.
Nope. We know that there was a war between Falon'din and the pantheon, but it was neither endless nor unwinnable, as Falon'din eventually got his teeth kicked in. We know the gods were petty, priideful and bickered but that does not translate into never ending warfare. We know Andruil went mad but that Mythal stopped her before she turned her weapons against the pantheon.

He assumed opening the orb would kill Cory, unaware of his super darkspawn regeneration powers.

This is probably the most likely outcome.

I'm not saying Solas is an innocent snowflake, but we need to know more about his intentions before heaping everything horrible that happens in the game on his little egg head.
Frankly, his character became MORE interesting after the epilogue. The grayer a character is, the better I like them.

Guy doesn't think things through at all.
Imma lock all the gods and free the elves...Well, that went bad.
Imma give my orb to this shifty looking guy...Well, that again went rather bad.
Imma join the inquisition and retake the orb...Well...I didn't expect that...
Imma gonna do something dumb again.
Solas doesn't let failure and world shattering actions slow him down, I'll give him that.

But if the Herald survived because of the Anchor then Corypheus, who would have had the Anchor had the Herald not intervened, would have survived as well even without regeneration powers.
Unless the Maker did step in.

Normally I roll my eyes at people who wanna kill people and such, but then I realize...if being sociopath killer/ Genocidal maniac in a game keeps you level headed and not want to practice these things in real life. Then go ahead.

Solas seemed surprised at that too.
Honestly of all the Dread Wolf's poorly thought out plans this one ranks up there with changing the foundations of elven society and falling asleep straight after.

No it doesn't. There are 2 wars mentioned at the temple, 3 if you include Andruil going bonkers. Mythal defeated Falon'din and Andruil. And the civil war took place after the gods were locked away.

Those are but small miscalculations, he definitely has it all figured out! Next time it will all work out just as planned!

Mythal and Andruil apparently settled that one like real men, 1v1!

Corypheus would've escaped with or without Hawke.
Still, what was Solas thinking when he gave Corypheus his orb? It's like he woke up and first thought was to find the most powerful mage in Thedas and hand him the orb, no questions asked. Guy was insane and always wanted to become a god, why would he change his mind? Solas should've done some background check.
Seeing the Breach he might just have thought Corypheus would nuke himself with it.

Anyway, the Last Court was a terrible game, but I got to kill seven Dalish clans, at least a vast majority of the hunters, in it. Now that's how you rule a marquisate.

If it makes you feel better, OP, the Dalish Inquisitor can get their own entire clan killed via war table missions.
Did that already
didnt get any loot for it :<

We do get to wipe out, albeit with assistance, the last remnants of the ancient elves. That has to be worth a lot more than a few miserable Dalish.
i dunno
i think the dalish being dead and then dead and wrong and leaving the ancient to fix the mess the dalish made is more fun.
and then we get to kill the ancient elves :DD
AND MAKE SOLAS TRANQUIL >:DD
