Alright, I'm only 10 hours into the game, but I picked up the official guide with my purchase. It's very sparse when it talks about "fraterinzations," but does say while gender plays a part in romances with Jacob and Miranda (who are hetero only), some shipmates will consider a relationship regardless of gender. And yet, it doesn't say who. I don't want to read too far into the thing because I don't want anything major spoiled, but I was under the impression that same-sex romance had been cut. Can anyone confirm if this is true, and if so, which characters are romanceable regardless of gender (*crosses fingers for Thane*)?

Well, right off the bat on the Normandy, your little assistant gives you that smile if you compliment her ( I am playing Female Character) the same grin as kaiden/ahsley gave you in ME1 in the med bay at the beginning, signaling that you could romance them. I assume that this means you can romance her...Sleeping with the assistant is a little cliche though. As for who else, for female to female, really the only other option would be jack, At least so far,

I can't imagine them cutting same-sex romance, ME1 had it, DA:O has it...If its controversial, well, that's good publicity...And the odds are that most people that would be offended aren't going to play this type of game anyway.

Yeah, I figured the assistant was an option. I was more curious as to seeing if there were other options (I thought Jack was nixed by Word of God during the Best Buy chat) since the guide states "characters" meaning more than one, and Kelly was the only confirmed option that I knew of. I was more hoping for an m/m option this time around, though I consider it unlikely.

Well, they did want your squadmates to be able to die.  I guess death from exposure to Shepard's human germs wasn't what they wanted for Tali though.

ME3 yes. And cheating will be punished.

I've heard the picture frame in Shepard's office displays a picture of your ME1 romance partner, but in my game the picture is black. Does that mean it didn't import in my romance data? I'm curious as to whether I should start up a new romance if it's forgotten about Ashley...

Yeah I got a little scared after the colony thing and thought Kaidan was gone from the picture...it was black when I first looked at it...I just moved a little closer and his face came in to view...if that isn't it, it could be a glitch...I know in one of my scenes with TIM my Shep was completely blacked out. There have been a few glitches here and there.

look how do you start the romances? So far jacob is being flirty, but i wasn;t interested in him. How do I start one with thane? He's not giving me the impression he's interested..

as far as i know you cannot enter romances with any non-squad members. There are three options for both males and females, you can pretty much guess which ones the are.

If your a Male Shepard (haven't tried female, although I imagine it would work too) and take Morinth over Samara you can also become involved with her if you talk to her after the collector base.

I would highly suggest saving first, if there is a way to survive being with her I don't know it, but someone else may figure it out.

Are you refering to the time when the Illusive man sets you up in the trap or after the suicide mission?

Cheating. Bah. After Ash tore out my Shep's heart and left it to rot on Horizon, I find it hard to consider hooking up with wonderful cute and loving (and oh so cuddly) Kelly to be "cheating."
