Companions that you use the LEAST

Not because I hate them but Dorian isn't helping much in combat. His specialization is useless to my play style. Cole require too much babysit to be effective and IB die too fast for my requirement of tanker in my party.

My first two games I hardly used Sera or Vivienne at all. Maybe a couple times each at the most, though I did take Viv to the ball my first game. This time I'm using Sera more, but I think Viv will still sit on the sidelines. I can't come up with a really good reason for her to be tromping all over boofoo (ie the Hinterlands) or anywhere else, actually. Despite the fact she tells you she is more than willing to join you in the field, it just seems weird to me.

Everybody who isn't Cass, Sera, or Viv, honestly.
I've never used Cole, like, at all.

better yet cole, Vivine, and Cassandra. Cole irritates them so much, they sound like whiny brats, tell your pet to leave me alone. LolIf you haven't, bring them together (cat and dog)

Honestly for each character I tend to stick with 1 team set up once I've got access to them all, unless you need somebody else for a quest requirement.
S&S Warrior I took Dorian, Varric, and 2 Handed Spec Blackwall
KE Mage, I take Sera, Ironbull, and Solas.
Assassin Rouge, I plan to take Vivvine, Cole, and Cassandra.

Well game have so many characters yet only 3 slots but for me this was mostly Cole coz dual wield rouge sucks if you don't control them directly, actually thinking back now to me rouges ware the least used Cole and Varric.
Then Vivian probably, for some reason i just didn't like her not to mention that she with her fashion sense put my female inquisitor to shame

Dorian, because everything he can do, Vivienne and Solas can do better (have no love for his spec).
Cole and Iron Bull, they need to be played manually, even when Cole is an archer.
Varric, he is no fun this time for me, and Bianca restricts him a lot.

Iron Bull, Vivienne.

I rarely take Varric or Sera along. Only if I'm doing their quests... and I mostly take Iron Bull when I also take Dorian along, because I want to see them flirt. ![]()

Cole (never used), Sera (never used), Iron Bull (never used).
Well, apart from their missions obviously ![]()
I used Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne/Dorian (Viv for first half, Dorian for second) mostly.

Vivienne-Used her for maybe 5 minutes since November. Despise her.
The Iron Bull-Don't like his character or most of his banter. IMHO would have been better as a more typical Qun and less a frat boy.
Varric-Not as interesting as the other rogues and keeping Bianca upgraded is a pain.

Varric.
Despite being among my favourite characters of the franchise, mind you. But so is (Sarcastic) Hawke, and there can only be one dynamic duo comparing scores mid-combat. It feels like cheating Chuckles when Varric has banter with the Inquisitor. He's deliberately a bit like Morrigan in my game: I constantly talk to him, but he's more of a veteran advisor that leaves the spotlight for the newbies.
Vivienne.
She's a very interesting character, and I know she's written to be obnoxious, but as a person of power and influence, she should not have been a companion in favour of someone else. I don't know what it is, but the way in which she is "mean", is simply not "companion material". Anders, for example, was utterly unlikeable to many, but he still felt like part of the gang. Despite being self-proclaimed advocate of opressed mages, he had moments were he acted like an individual, an aquaintance at least; whereas Vivienne always comes across as if she was the representative of a larger group, a spokesperson if you will. All her personal motives are still political and official to some degree.

Blackwall: I'll take him out to hear his companion interactions, but I love Cassandra and Bull too much to make him my main warrior.

I use them all more or less equally. In every Bioware game I've always rotated companions in & out for different missions. I prefer it mostly for story reasons, as it doesn't make sense from a story perspective for some companions to be gathering dust back at home base, but it also improves gameplay IMO. Mixing it up keeps things interesting.

Dorian, Cole and Iron Bull.
Dorian's insistence on raising the mobs I kill means I have to wait around for his spell to wear off before I can loot them, sometimes chasing them half way across the map to get that leather I want.
Cole I play as a DWR.
Iron Bull, dies far too easily.

Sera, Varric, Iron Bull
Even though I'm all for ranged types, somehow in this game archers aren't really appealing to me. Other games did a better job in archer combat design, but that's just me. I like being busy in fights, which is why I prefer melee... but IB, I only bring him a lot when I'm playing a mage. In my PTs he dies more often than Cole, and again maybe because I don't really like to be tied to a particular moveset in every single fight...
Do this > Buff > Do That > Rampage > Rinse repeat..... sigh.

The ones I use the least are the rogues (though Cole is one of my favorite characters
) because they have no barrier and no guard and the ai is so crappy that even if they have zero short range moves, the archers wont stand at a safe distance and will instead try to give the dragons a dental exam. This is the first game I've played where I bring companions based on their combat usefulness rather than if I like them or like their interaction with each other. Party banter almost never fired for me so that reason was gone, and companions don't interact with quests beyond a rare "this guy's a tool" (Varric on lord Erimond) type comments and are ignored by the NPCs. The companions also approve or disapprove even if they aren't in the party so that reason is gone too.

I try to mix it up and give every companion some group time, though I generally use Iron Bull and Cole in areas that I have outleveled... they die too easily without babysitting.

Vivienne, Sera, Blackwall, The Iron Bull are the ones I use the least. I actually don't use them at all outside of their quests.
I take Dorian everywhere no matter which class I'm playing.
On the squishy mage I take Cassandra most of the time in addition to Dorian.
When I have these two I will switch among Varric, Cole, and Solas for the last slot, depending on circumstances.
On SnS tank warrior I will respec Cassandra out of taunts but keep her as an SnS dps build.
Outside of Dorian, I will alternate the remaining two slots among Cass, Varric, Cole, and Solas, depending on circumstances.

I went Blackwall, Solas and Cole in my first playthrough. But I had Varric and then Sera, before I could get Cole. And Cassandra, before Blackwall. That left of Viv, Bull and Dorian, though I had to use Dorian on some missions. I fooled around with Viv near the end of my first playthrough. Didn't touch Bull, saved him for the second. I rushed to get him.
I'm going for Bull, Dorian and Varric on my second. And I'll prolly use Viv a little bit, before getting Dorian. Guess that will mean I'll make a wide use of the companions. Sera and Viv aren't "mains" in any of my playthrough, Neither is Cass, but at least she is a starter.

Cole and Varric. Even tho I love Cole to death. I just generally only keep one rogue in my party, and while my first playhtrough was a mage (and I tried to alternate between all the rogues, but Sera just seemed to do the most damage for me), my 2nd and 3 playthroughs have both been as a rogue. Which means I only bring other rogues with me when I'm hoping to hear some banter, but most of the time that's futile since banter is so messed up.
Solas, Dorian, Cassandra and Blackwall are the ones I use the most.

Having your group stand afar from dragons in either Hard or Nightmare is nothing but a death sentence, though. It's impossible to make it into safe "eye of the storm" range from the brief tell you get before they do their wing-flappy-move, which basically says "you do not kite".
Not gonna argue the AI isn't really doing anything but spam skills and follow your main character, I merely felt obnoxious enough to point out the above :]
