I think the general feeling on difficulty is that Origins was fairly hard, but there wasn't much difference between the difficulty levels.

In DA2, each difficulty level is a significantly bigger jump from the one before it. Easy is easier that DAO's Easy, but Nightmare is harder than DA:O's Nightmare. I'm a DA veteran, and DA2 Nightmare still gives me a run for my money in places.

But unless you're fishing for achievements, don't be scared to fiddle with the difficulty settings. There are a number of boss battles (one at the end of each act, plus an optional dragon one) which are famously looooooooooong. Some people knock down the difficulty on those just to get them over with quicker.

Ok, thanks....yeah, I did find the difficulty on Origins really fair with the exception of about three main parts, and then suddenly difficulty was quite difficult. I appreciate the heads up

About 10 hours in and loving the game. In hindsight, i don't mind a smaller game, partly cause I know the monster that is Inquisition is next!

latest Noob question:

1)When i see a status effect on my HUD, is there somewhere I can go to view which one it is? This is something that was easy to identify in origins, but don't see it within this game? For example, i see that many are just the sustained ability of my team, but some I don't recognize as one. A head with a green background. manual isn't really helpful

2) when I upgrade an ability such as Stonefist to Golemfist, its weird that the upgrade name doesn't replace the initial ability? I've assumed upgrades are passive? My only other confusion on this is with the upgrade. My character has the Apocalyptic upgrade, and another does not. Yet when i click 'x' for details, both appear identical based on the stats

Thank you

On the 360, you can see sustainable talents via the talent wheel: LT->Sustained spells/talents. The active ones have a glow on their icons.

Upgrades add bonuses to the abilities, but their names stay as they are. The base ability's description does change to reflect any upgrades.

But yes, DA2 isn't particularly clear about this.

Thanks, as to the first question, I noticed the sustained abilities were the ones showing, but I've seen an icon that was not a sustained ability - head with green background, but could be mistaken

Update: ok that 'head with green' is, in fact, the debilitating poison icon...lol mystery resolved on that one

And yeah, I swear I've compared an upgraded ability to the original and did not notice the description change - though the ability clearly lasted longer..

Thanks for the answers

The easiest way to check these is with upgrades that add something new to the base talent. For example, Fenris' Lyrium Ghost has Defense +20% and Crit chance +20%, its upgrade Lyrium Specter adds DR +10% and Magic resistance +10%. The description should list all four.

My best advice would probably be: be careful around Anders. If you talk too much about the mage freedom he will assume you want the D and ninjamance you regardless of gender. :D He's a sneaky sneaky bastard... :D

I am gonna tell Anders to get his 'D' away from my 'B' and we should be good....lol

So, I started the Legacy dlc during Act 2 (now have my mansion)....and its good. Though out of no where it talks about the Cartel from the original game attacking my family and referred to it in past tense

Question: is there a mission during act 2 pertaining to the Cartel that I have yet to play? Or does the DLC just refer to something that we are supposed to understand that happen during the time between the end of act 1 and start of act 2?

The reasons for Carta attacking Hawke will be explained later on during Legacy, but Carta does make (unrelated) appearances in the main game as well.

Tip of the day: there is a hidden boss in Legacy, so keep your eyes (and ears) open.

Hidden boss? NICE. And thanks for the tip (and clarification on Carta)

He can be difficult to find even if you know of his existence, and you most certainly don't just stumble upon him - especially as you'll never get any quest for him. He does net you a hefty amount of XP.

"It" will probably be the most appropriate pronoun. And yes, you will definitely know it.

The location is not difficult to find, in fact you have to pass through it anyway. The trick is getting him to appear.

Just finished..........about 51 hours on first playthrough. Did almost all side missions, and 2 of 3 DLCs

Good game for sure. The map size is definitely small, given tons of cave reuse, but the story and characters were strong.

Updated my Dragon's Age Keep - off to Inquisiton

(and damn, some of the Keep's questions were pretty specific on some of those smaller missions.

Hope you had an enjoyable time playing through. It was my first time as well, about a month ago. Really liked this game, despite all the hate it gets.

I did not - I was probably rushing a bit, but i did use the Wiki page, so I was on the lookout for the item to unlock...if I play it again, and I may, I'll definitely get the boss. Wiki or somewhere indicated it was a tough boss, so I was not super pumped for it

Its a really good game, IMO. My only complaint: reuse of the levels was a bit too much. Bioware really did use the same cave over and over....

Agreed. I hated the story ending the first time tho. My opinion has since mellowed.

They did, and it is right that they should never hear the end of it :P

Honestly, as awesome as DA:I is, its almost too long...lol. What a wonderful problem to have, but wouldn't mind a slightly smaller experience in DA4. Aspects to the smaller DA2 scale that I really did enjoy.....all three games are awesome. Playing Witcher 1 now; fun, but not as much so as Origins

As I've posted before, longer games mean you have more time to get attached to the characters.
