When Max and Chloe went into the secret bunker, I suspected it was Jefferson because of the fancy tripods and the immense printer, which reminds me of when Max comments on the fancy equipment in Jefferson's classroom. It just seemed like something well beyond Nathan's interests. The entire setup just seemed out of his league, despite his money. Also, when Max encounters Nathan at 2 whales, he blurts out Rachel's name and is angered when it's not her. He's kind of batshit, but not that much so. Also, the meta-game-y side of me just couldn't accept the orgy of evidence that pointed to Nathan.

I kinda thought it would Nathan's father.  I mean, all the stuff topside showed this was a piece of property owned by the Prescotts for decades.  Nathan may be too nuts to plan something this elaborate, but maybe someone older and with more self control, with more money to throw around.

In one of my playthroughs there was a school jacket in the bunker. In another playthrough it wasn't there.

 

But for the life of me I can't figure out which of the different choices I made caused the jacket to turn up/dissappear.

 

Anybody have any ideas?

I thought about that, but I would've been pretty bummed if it was, because there's no impact in the story if it's some faceless dude we never get to see but only occasionally hear about from time to time.

Yeah that was another thing. When looking through the photos, and seeing the tail end of Jefferson's expensive car, I had to wonder why David cared about keeping tabs on that guy. There had to be a reason. But still, despite my slight suspicions actually coming true, I still felt a bit blown away by the scene, though I imagine it will be corrected via time travel………….

What makes me find Jefferson's little hobby even more sickening and just plain baffling is the fact that he probably can't ever publish those photos. Atleast for most of them, I don't see how he could. The identity of his subjects is fairly clear, and he can't risk publishing photos that his own students would easily recognize as their classmates. Even if they were released somewhere anonymously it's too risky. As an artist, one of the biggest motivational factors for me producing high-quality work is the potential to share it with those who may appreciate the work and find pleasure in it. Even people who make some whack sicko porno art can share their stuff on tumblr or whatever if they so desire, cause they're not compromising anyone's identity.

But it would seem this guy has such a sincere belief in the beauty of these photos that he doesn't care they can never be published. He just loves it so much..awful!

It is quite ironic considering how he constantly lectures Max on 'sharing her gift with the world'. Perhaps this is why, as he knows that he can't share his little secret with the world. But why does he do it? Surely he could have models instead, heck, he could even ask for students to volunteer, as I'm sure his army of admirers would have loved to pose in his photos (and he could have published them, as they would have been done with consent). It's quite odd. Unless he just gets off on capturing vulnerable people, suggested by his opening lecture in episode 1, as he mocked Diana Arbus in her attempts to frame humanity as 'tortured'

. 

 

Edit: Also, is Blackwell a high school or a college? I thought it was a college considering the dorms and the fact students have scholarships and the wiki also claims that it is a college. However, Ms Grant refers to it as a high school.

Jefferson strikes me as an art version of the FOR SCIENCE! stereotype. He does it because he can and additionally gets of on the power that he has and exercises over those poor girls.

Some of those pictures, like those that Nathan has in his room (are those pictures actually "art" from Jefferson, or legitimate BDSM erotic pictures?), could very well be sold as some kind of bondage erotic pictures, but most of them seem just to exist to please his own depraved fetish and sense of art.

 

On the other hand I'm pretty sure that you would find customers for that "art" without a problem. If you can think of it, you can be sure somebody has a fetish for it.

Yes, it would seem as much. Although Max is 18, so it's bizarre that she would attend a high school for a single year, I have never heard of a 19-year-old high school student before, and it's her first year at Blackwell. I know that she obviously went to high school in Seattle first, but I doubt she would have received a scholarship for a single year.

 

Edit: I just rechecked the wiki and it has since been updated. It is a private boarding school for senior students. Also, a user (Timjames98) left a comment regarding a theory on Blackwells name being symbolic. I will repost it here, as it's rather interesting.

A Well is something used to obtain water in large amounts. As water is important to human survival, it is associated with good things. Hence, the reason people throw coins down wells in exchange for luck.

Now the color black holds many negative connotations. It's the color of night and darkness (when people can not see and are therefore vulnerable), the color of bruises and body parts afflicted by frostbite, the color of ashes (which are the leavings of a fire, which can cause great harm) , and the color of rotting things.

Hence we have "Black Well", or "Danger disguised as fortune". And it is a fitting name considering that, despite being a school (and therefore originally intended to give students opportunity and knowledge), Blackwell is a place where A LOT of sinister and generally shady things are going on.

Just some symbolism to ponder.

 

Perhaps it's nothing, however, an interesting theory nonetheless.

Unless there's a "x months later" flash forward at the end of the next episode as an epilogue, I don't see it being definitively a thing. Maybe some teaser to where people can easily headcanon it as later happening should they want to.

Remember that this has all been just a single week, which is a bit quick if you ask me to fully go through the process of "girlfriend disappears -> old best friend comes back -> you dig up your girlfriend's decomposing corpse -> get together with your best friend"
