Howdy,

So it's been a few years since I've played NWN2 but I'm itching for some quality roleplay. I've recently moved and lost my PnP group and I miss playing in a meaningful campaign. I'm looking for other players--whether veterans of the DM'd campaign genre or newbies.

What will this campaign be like?

  • The campaign will consist of 1 DM (me) and up to 4 player characters.
  • We will play 2 sessions per month for a few hours per session starting sometime in mid-late February. We won't have a set time so as to be flexible around everyone's schedule (I'm In Texas). The campaign will continue until we're bored.
  • The game will be in-character. You will be expected to roleplay your PC. Roleplay will not consist of sitting around a tavern talking about thinking about wishing you could adventure.
  • I run a low-magic, slow-progression campaign. That doesn't mean it will take a year of real time to hit level 2 and gain your first +2 to Spot item, but it will be paced like an old school PnP game.
  • The campaign will be character-driven meaning that like any good PnP game I will present some adventure hooks and you will give me some character input and together we'll make a cool story.
  • I've modified the game to approximate PnP (yes, I could use a virtual tabletop but I don't like them). I use HCR2 as a base but will not require the PCs eat/drink or perform skill check bowel movements and all that jazz unless there's some IC reason to do so. I feel little touches like forcing a party of humans to carry a torch or use a light spell in a pitch black cave add to immersion.
  • The game will not be bound by the NWN2 engine, meaning that you'll be telling me that your PC listens at a door rather than me placing triggers around the area to call for those skill checks. If you want to jump from the bannister, swing from the chandelier, and land on the bandit then excellent--let's pause and roll a Jump check to start. (I have a scripted, UI-driven turn based mode to allow for these types of things).
  • The campaign will be set in the Western Heartlands/Sword Coast area of the Forgotten Realms because it's accessible and easy to find prefabs. You don't have to know anything about the Forgotten Realms to play in this game, but you'll probably enjoy it more and feel more comfortable if you know the basics.
  • I do have a large set of haks for this (2.52gb to be exact) because, barring some outstanding release on the new vault, I never want to merge CC again in my life. Be okay with that download.
  • While I do not actively roleplay adult situations, harsh language, etc., I would prefer that players be 18+ and not opposed to mature content (meaning things equivalent to a rated R movie, not pixel-pr0n).
  • And because I'm sure someone will ask it: no I don't use Kaedrin's in this mod although I think his work is fantastic. <3

This sounds like a dream come true, how can I play in your game?

I want to make sure that we get a good group of likeminded players. If interested, please send me a private message here on the forums and answer the following questions (there are no right or wrong answers):

  1. What is your history with the NWN series? Have you played on any PWs? Have you enjoyed any particular modules? Have you created any custom content?
  2. How would you describe yourself as a roleplayer? What type of RP activities do you prefer? To you, what is the right balance between dungeoneering/hacking and slashing and "other" activities?
  3. Provide me with a brief synopsis of a character that you would potentially play. This will not force you to play that character, but it will demonstrate your ability to create a back story and adventuring motivations. Feel free to be as succinct or detailed as you would like--a few paragraphs would be more than sufficient. I don't need genealogy to the 100th generation or how the sun glistened off a dew drop in the High Forest and that's what made you decide to adventure level of detail unless you feel inspired and write well enough for me to read it.
  4. Using the character from #4, please tell me how you would IC'ly react to the following situation: You were hired by a minor lord to find a family heirloom long lost but recently uncovered. The heirloom gives the owner de jure lordship over the immediate area. Following the successful recovery of said artifact one of your compatriots adamantly suggests taking the artifact to one of the lord's rivals to leverage the importance of the artifact to earn more coin either from the rival or the lord.

Talk to you soon,

David
