i thought the shard in the Exalted Plains was just as hard. You know the one where you have to jump up a broken wall, jump on top of door frame, then balance on a 4x2 plank to get on top of the roof.

Not a fan of Jumping puzzles, so eventually skipped the ones that were not deemed worthy of my time. That said, I enjoy Jumping and falling, and being able to traverse the world in another direction. Was able to use the mechanics to assail some cliffs to gain a tactical advantage over enemies, cover ground much faster, as well as gather treasure and loot. Discovered the Evade ability for Rogues seemed to help prevent some fall damage; used it for quick drops and also for covering greater distance than a normal Jump. And Mages have Fade Step and Fade Cloak; have not utilized Warriors yet, but am hoping they have something similar.Great addition to the series, but do not require Lemming puzzles to use it.
See I don't think what it added was worth the cost in terms of jumping when trying to do any of the other things mapped to the button.
While the elevation thing works -- especially with the archer perk for it -- it doesn't help traveling about (anywhere you need to get you can walk to), it allowed the addition of some deeply annoying jumping puzzles ( the rafters in the palace irk me as that halla statue is semi-needed) I felt more annoyed by it than glad it was part of the world. At the very least I wasn't looking back at DAO and DA2 and wishing I could jump in those games.

In principle I like the idea of jumping and climbing trees and other things to get to things, but in DAI the most annoying jumping puzzles were sort of like driving a car at full speed without a wheel.

Is there a partition somewhere to get the designer who is responsible for the last shard in the Hinterlands, flocked in the public square?
I'd like to sign the "partition" for the "flocking" as well.

Who on Earth thought it is fun to have to jump around on rocks, where one mistake means you have to start all over again? .. especially since the character can't turn without moving a step.
I have now spent 15-20 minutes trying to get up on the rock where the shard is ... and I am getting really pissed off.
The designers seem to like to place objects where you will have to navigate very narrow paths to get to it, and one misstep means you are starting over. I have seen it several times now.
Why would you think this is fun game play?
Maybe I am just not that accurate with character jumping, but that part of the quest was annoying.
If you think this is maddening then Shadow of the Colossus would cause you an aneurysm ![]()

okay I've been thinking and I remembered something: didn't they mentioned "climbing mechanics" pre release? Maybe I'm imagining things, but I think I've read it somewhere, and was all excited imagining my inquisitor actually grabbing on the rocks and climbing ![]()

I'm actually a big fan of jumping
LOVED the jumping puzzles in Guild Wars 2.
However, I HATED trying to jump around in DA:I. If they could fix the jumping issues (such as invisible obstacles, areas that LOOK like you can walk on them but can't, character falling backwards when jumping forwards ) I would be happy to run around and jump off cliffs and try to obtain hard to reach objects ![]()

My big issue with jumping - particularly for the "jumping puzzles - and, to be fair, this is not something limited to DA:I by any means, a lot of games suffer from it, is that when trying to jump and climb things, my character is incapable of stuff that even I, an unfit and somewhat overweight middle aged man, can do. Why? Because I have hands. No, really. That's it. I have hands. When it comes to trying to get up slopes and over obstancles and onto roof beams, my character apparently doesn't. because at no point does she try to grab onto anything to help her up.

This reminded me of the broken dock next to the Fereldan Frostback where I just flank attacked across the water to get to the chest.

I gave up on that shard maybe a month ago after pointless hours spent trying to jump rocks only to fail over and over. For me it's near impossible to get to, especially since my companions will randomly spawn on whatever effing rock I happen to be on at that moment and knock me off. Fortunately I've collected just about every Shard in the game which was accompanied by lots of profanity - room mates probably think me a mad woman. Never again will I be bothered to collect every bloody Shard in this game.
companions + puzzles = *tears*

The shard in Lady Shayna's Valley is annoying, but the shard on the roof of that building in the Exalted Plains has me frothing at the mouth. So let me get this straight. I have to climb a plank, scale a wall, jump a door frame, land on a 2x4, and then jump a gap to get that shard? Eff you and all your ancestors.
And scaling that lyrium shard in the EdL? Eff 'em all again!
I have yet to get that one chest in the wine cellar at Suledin Keep. I got almost all the way there one time and then fell off the platform. Never again. I can live with the loot radar ping. Pass me a health potion, I'm going to try it again.

Well the jumping isn't working quite as it should either, unfortunately.

That's a shame, I'd have loved to see some actual climbing animations, climbing-by-jumping in DAI and Skyrim is just so silly.

that was driving me nuts til, I worked out you could actually climb to the roof using the broken wall nearest to the water. that's how I get up there now, on pc, using kb&m

Shards = major headache and that's a really bad thing to say if you consider how those skulls are created... but for me it's the "loot" button. I'm about to make a jump for a shard and loot is nearby and suddenly I'm stopped mid-jump to gather loot I did not command as I hit the button to jump instead and my quizzy falls right off the cliff!

Someone didn't grow up on platformers, clearly.
K&M, and I had that thing in no time. Jump game too strong for those fools at BioWare. ![]()
I find this really funny though, because back in the day there were lots of complaints about Dragon Age no having jumping. People seemed convinced that any western RPG that didn't let you mountain goat across the landscape was missing something. Now everyone's upset because jumping is in the game, and they made it a minor part of the gameplay. I can take it either way personally. I do wish they'd give me back overhead point-and-click movement though. My left hand is getting tired of all that running, jumping, and searching.

They saw that Ass Creed has lots of collectibles (feathers, sea shanties, whatever) in obscure, hard to reach places and figured that Dragon Age could benefit from similar mechanics. They forgot to account for the tiny detail that Ass Creed is a parcour simulator which is built around making climbing hard to reach places fun, instead of a tacked on and completely pointless jump mechanic in Dragon Age (seriously, there is literally no place in the entire game when the ability to jump adds anything)
This was what I thought as well. And why to collect some of the shards that I can stand right next to do I have to take the longest route possible to retrieve!!!!

I love that you have no fall damage in Skyhold. Makes navigating the place much faster (yep, I throw my Inquisitor from walls and towers just to save a few seconds).
Yes this was a god send but I often had to look away from the screen as I am afraid of heights ![]()

My Inquisitor was forever plummeting from the high places in Skyhold, especially in the Herald's Rest, the hospital camp, and the library tower... and into the great hall from Vivienne's loft. I like to think that longtime residents would laugh at newcomers' horror and say "You get used to it after a while."
