Jumping in this game is very infuriating. The jump height is low compared to all the places where it looks like are areas jumpable to. Lots of trial an error (oops, the correct path is on the OTHER side of this giant mountain). Or, because of the jump height, it takes many tries to jump over something which should look trivial to go over (I can save the world but not jump over a small rock). Constantly having to hop over things that I should also be able to walk over. Add to that the shards and mosaic pieces, it's really annoying. The amount of retracing paths to get to an elevated level which has no reason to get to besides a shard/mosaic piece is a waste of time. And given the fact that finding those ocularums isn't necessarily the first thing you manage to do when visiting an area, there's a lot of backtracking going on, that which involves a lot of jumping. I remember in the forums the clamour for jumping, but honestly, I don't see how it's better than DAO and DA2 which had no jumping.

I'm the king of starting over (I get bored right after adamant, STILL haven't finished the game), and so I've done this shard probably about 30 or more times. The only piece of advice I can give, and my reasons for this may sound nuts, is use Vivienne to get the shard. I can't explain why it just works better, but she *seems* to be able to jump more accurately and doesn't fall when she lands with only a toe on her intended destination. Also, make sure she has Fade Cloak; there's a hole you can fall into right before you get to the shard, and using Fade Cloak and jumping is the only way I've found to get out of it ... again, don't know exactly why this works, but it does for me. Maybe she (or females in general in the game) are just more accurate jumpers, maybe it's something about the smaller feet and no boot-type armor, but when I can't get that shard in the first 2 or 3 times with my main, I go to Viv (who is always there for my first dragon kill, even if I'm playing a KE myself) and get it within 2-3 more tries max.

One more thing for that jump challenge and quite a few others: I have the PC version, and I don't *think* there was a key binding for 'walk' ... make one, and use it. You need to be running for most jumps, but when you're navigating some parts of the shard jump, 'walking' really helps you (well it helps me at least) not go too far and fall off.

Am....
Am I the only one who spends half their game time jumping all over Haven and Skyhold and enjoys to get to those really ridiculously hard to reach places?

The fact that shards exist already pisses me off.

For my money jumping made the game worse not better. Jumping puzzles have zero place in this type of game. That they are badly implemented just add to that. It also created a lot of bad navigation early on as there were places you could jump climb that looked silly and other you couldn't. There was never a point where I jumped and I thought....wow, that added something to the DA experience I've always wished I could have.

Maybe not the only one, I'm not one of them.

I dislike Jumping puzzles, but enjoyed having the mechanic in the game.
With my Rogue, I was able to dismount from the scaffolding using Evasion and roll gently into better position, or avoid being surrounded at a higher location by likewise descending to a lower one. During Keep occupations, I was able to use the mechanic to bypass a longer, more hazardous path and flank the enemy. In exploration, being able to gain access behind the enemy utilizing Jumping came in handy a few times. And while I also dislike Shard placements, I do enjoy the rewards gained from them, if desired. And I also took advantage of the falling damage to dispose of a few foes, both purposely and accidentally.
Jumping and falling still remains effective; has made the varied elevated landscape of JoH a bit more interesting for myself.
