Mindcontrol in Skyhold?

Try chosing the basic drapery at Skyhold and walk into Josephine's office. Take a look at he drapery hanging on the wall.

There's no doubt about this glyph is The Yellow Sign made by Kevin Ross for Call of Cthulhu. None at all.

This glyph was first described in 'The King in Yellow', a story by Robert W. Chambers.

Am I wrong?

Wikipedia

One of the stories in "The King in Yellow" is named "The Yellow Sign"

It is about an artist who is troubled by a sinister churchyard watchman who resembles a coffin worm.

In Call of Cthulhu the sign symbolises mind control.

Direct from Wikipedia:

"The King in Yellow never fully describes the shape and purpose of the Yellow Sign. Nonetheless, "The Repairer of Reputations", one of the stories in the collection, suggests that anyone who possesses, even by accident, a copy of the sign is susceptible to some form of insidious mind control, or possession, by the King in Yellow or one of his heirs. The stories also suggest that the original creator of the sign was not human and possibly came from a strange alternate dimension that contains an ominous and ancient city known as Carcosa."

Someone placed the glyph on the drapes for a reason. Who has interest in controlling minds?

It would fit with the aura surrounding Solas?
We know Solas is not what he pretends to be. Not quite.
And when I think of the private talk the Inquisitor had with Solas in Haven?

Morrigan? She is not controlling minds, although the rumours indicates it. It was mentioned in a dialogue option during the conversation with Leliana in the Winter Palace. Remember?
I don't think Morrigan has any interest in controlling the minds of the inquisitor or his team. Why should she? She doesn't know what's hidden i The Temple of Myrthal. Or, well, maybe she does, but she doesn't know the whole truth. She is also just a piece in the puzzle.

Could it be Flemeth? All this just to get Morrigans body and/or child?

Flemeth through Solas, or both in cooperation?
But Flemeth can't predict if Morrigan or the Inquisitor will drink of the well?

Whispers in the background at The Well of Sorrows after you drink from the well:

"She speaks the thruth, She's fallen, lost. Go to the altar. Mythal and Solas calling."

Nerd overload?

Yeah, maybe. But you must admit that this glyph is intentional? You don't create a game like DAI and place a very specific sign on the basic drapery without a reason?

Ok, maybe some designer had a little fun?
But it is still a puzzle. The Yellow Sign is from a horror story. Later on Lovecraft implemented it in 'Call of Cthulhu' which is not exactly a story meant for children?

I just wonder why this sign is placed on the drapes?

If so, what is it we don't see?

Is it a general hint? We know how the story ends. Or it there something hidden somewhere?

I think it's just a cute easter egg. I'm still gonna have fun with it though and make silly lovecraftian theories n' junk. (yes I know lovecraft didn't write this before anyone says it).

I want to find the artist who put the Yellow Sign in DA:I and give them a hug.

Though now, if a priest wearing a silk mask turns up, I'm going to just NOPE the f*** on out of there.

I'm sure this symbol is placed on the drapes to control minds somehow.

*slaps a hand to her forehead*

I was just puzzling over this the other day, and had this whole elaborate explanation cooked up in my head where the three spiral arms represented the Sun, the False Sun, and Solas with Thedas as the "egg" in the center- its nature to be determined by whichever metaphorical Will managed to triumph over the others to "fertilize" it.  The Sun (destruction) the False Sun (a return to perfect Order by means of Blight) or Solas (Balance).

...and then it turns out to be a Call of Cthulhu easter egg.  (งಥwಥ)ง

*crumples up her tinfoil hat, tosses it out the window*

More than likely, given the Lovecraft references in several of the creature Codexes (the quillback and the bogfisher, for instance).

NERD OVERLOAD

This is mid-range nerdery.

I once read a crossover novel in which the X-Men ended up aboard the Enterprise E via inter dimensional wormhole.

This is...much more interesting than that was. Thanks, OP. Made my evening.

I think it's more likely it was part of the original heraldry of whoever occupied Skyhold before the Inquisition. It doesn't make sense for a current character to have added it recently, since you can get rid of it pretty much as soon as you enter Skyhold.

If only more people were willing to throw out their tinfoil hats when faced with overwhelming evidence! Or, if you want, you can still theorize what it means in the context of DA. Just because it's an Easter egg doesn't mean it doesn't mean something. ;)

That solution didn't cross my mind. But it could actually be as simple as that. Thanks for simple logic.

Although I must admit I find it peculiar. The sign is more or less hidden. Could be because it is old and worn out of course.

Have you read some of the monster codexes? There are definitely Lovecraft references in them.
