they are not a huge problem, but i think that there should be .25 second delay before ice mine explodes the range needs to be nerfed, also there needs to be a cooldown on the move it uses to get around

If you're having trouble, maybe have a warrior with Grappling Chain upgraded. It pulls them in then stuns them... though not for very long.

They can be obnoxious but vulnerability to knockdown makes them not much of a real threat, only at early levels like maybe up to level 10 if even that. 1 charging bull chained into other knockdown abilities and they're in trouble. This game has a ton of gap closers to handle their jumping around, and there is actually a huge delay before their ice mine attack goes off you just have to recognize the animation for them casting it.

Honestly I see more trouble from rage demons since they can constantly make themselves immune to knockdown and taunt, and can kill your squishies in a couple seconds if left unchecked (not to mention powering up wraiths to apply burning status, which is extremely obnoxious).

Wraith's are by far the most annoying demons. They can't be grappled, they take on elements which increase their dps, and they always come in numbers.

Still fairly easy to manage though, just don't get stuck in a circle of 'em.

Rage demons are easy, you just need to Dispel their barriers, and to have a cold staff. Really, as long as they aren't currently larger in size, they are easy to knockdown or stun.

This, or, honestly, just hit them with any decent fire spell. If it's beefed up with chaotic focus than so much the better.

On Nightmare I actually find Wraiths (I think they're named) most challenging. They tend to spawn in groups and each of them can inflict much damage from long distances. Single powerful demons are easier to handle, using hidden blades, thousand cuts or other "op" abilities.

primary concern with depair demons at early levels?

Their infinite kiting skills.. it's kinda silly that I have to stay at a rift myself out of fear of it resetting when I have melee chasing him down.

At low levels, one strat I use is to send my tank at the despair demon while I kill everything else.  Then disrupt the fade rift to stun them so they don't hop away. As others have said, they don't survive stuns long. They have high-dps and mobility, but very low armor and hitpoints.

With all melee at low levels, you'll do more dps just disrupting the rift over and over again.  And you won't risk resetting it by getting too far away.

The demons I find most difficult depend on my class.  On dps warriors it's wraiths because I lack ranged defense.  On my rogue it's Pride demons.  High armor plus guard spam = tedium.  At low levels of course.

Wraith attacks are tricky to dodge, but if you jump at the right time in the opposite horizontal direction (moving right --> jump to left) then it becomes much easier to deal with them. If there's too many of them, I just have Solas pop barrier on my warrior, get blackwall to tank, then I rush in and kill them with mighty blow or whirlwind.

My only problem with them is that they jump out of the Rift range (usually behind walls, scaling the problem even further), forcing you to either wait and hope they'll be back to try and kill you or chase them and restart the whole Rift. Their escape movement can be gamebreaking at moments.

if they jump out the rift just camp the rift and keep popping it until it dies

On Nightmare they can be a pain for one reason... they just keep retreating backwards, you can't pursue them yourself because it will reset the rift... so I just stand there and watch my companions chasing them all over the place, miles from the rift (and wonder if they were ever QA). Meanwhile I just stand there and use mark on the rift and hope Dorian doesn't make it a pet and make the process even more tedious.

Apologies if you know this already, but you can click on Spirit Mark to instantly kill the minion. Hence why the spell description says "can be toggled on or off".

Despair demons are incredibly weak to fire so, an inferno mage or fire runes on weapons makes them easy to take down.

I hate those demons that pop up from under you. On Nightmare, I once had three pop up under my character consecutively, getting knocked down again even though I was already knocked down, then stunned x3 with their screeching. It happened too fast for my warriors to do anything about it.

What's really BS is that enemy AI is at least semi-competent most of the time, whereas my companions are morons.

3 Despair Demon 4-5 Wraith Rifts are always a lot of fun.

I think I hate Wraiths more than Despair Demons; there's always a ton of them and they blend into the scenery, can't be CCd and there's too many to taunt them all so they just pick off your Mages and Archers while you chase them around.  At least they die fast.

I always hated having to do samsons cave at lower levels, 2 despair demons with 1 rage and 2 wraiths I think, the first time I tried it I was level 7 and my warrior died in 3 hits, and then their long range continuous ice blast move killed varric and solas with ease, Cassandra was alive for about 1 minute before she went down, only realised later they were level 12 enemies, I just thought I sucked lol

Yeah, I find them to be among the more annoying demons, but really the worst are fear demons.  You only encounter them 2 or 3 times outside the fade but if you get caught unaware, F*ck me.  Cruising along, closing fade rifts and mowing through whatever it spits out at me, generally not paying attention and miss that one of these buggers has spawned,  within ten seconds my entire party is dead and I'm on the verge.  WTF happened!  I got a couple hundred hit points left and it's got a full party of despair demons and wraiths.  It won't be long now.

I always balance out my team with different forms of attack, so that I got at least 2 ways to deal with most enemies. Dispel and Immolate takes care of Despairs quickly enough to spend 3 seconds tops on them. Wraiths are a pain but having 2 warriors taunt them takes the agro away from my mages. Double chain lightning never fails once you have 90+ staves.
