I love seeing Despair Demons at rifts because it means I'm not facing the vastly more annoying Rage Demon or Greater Terror.

I don't know how the rage demons or terrors could be worse. The despair demons are extremely annoying because of their ice beams and the fact that they retreat a great distance away from you when you approach them. If you're an archer or a mage then this isn't as big a deal, but if you're a melee character it can be infuriating.

Despair demons only fly away when a melee character gets close to them. Keep their aggro on the tank but prevent the tank (and any other melee characters in your party) from getting too close to them. They should be easy to deal with unless you have no ranged characters in your party... in which case I can see why you'd have trouble.

From what I've experienced the only truly difficult enemies are those that don't abide with normal aggro mechanics. For example, it seems like your tank can taunt and build aggro on a terror demon all you want, and he'll still pop up underneath your three ranged squishy characters half a mile away from your tank and scream them all to death. That's why people hate terror demons so much. This is also what gave me so much trouble with the "Aspect of the Nightmare" boss... I taunted him a hundred times and he still rams into my squishy archer and mages and kills them.

If you can keep enemy aggro on the tank, any battle in this game is straightforward. Things only become messy when enemies concentrate their attacks on your squishy party members, especially when its despite your best efforts. But despair demons won't do that.
