I keep getting this message each time I start the game, and I've already downloaded the files after redeeming my codes.  The executables are sitting on my destop, and each time I try installing them it says it might not have installed correctly and asks if I want to use the recommended settings.

Where exactly should the install be happening at?  It looks like it keeps trying to install to the X86 folder on the partition Windows 7 is on, but my game is on another partition.

You need to log into the cerberus network to gain access to your DLC. Look on the right hand side of the main screen.

Unfortunately, the servers appear to be down currently.

The game is worth playing without the DLC untill they're back up, you aren't missing out on anything in the first couple of hours.

That's not it, I've already redeemed my codes and downloaded what's in my list below.  The two that say (Cerebus Network) after them installed without any problem, but the Weapons and Armor keep saying to log into the network to "purchase them" even though I've already downloaded them from that very same site they are redirecting me to and already installed them.  I am also currently connected to the Cerebus Network.

I have four items total:

Collectors' Weapon and Armor
Blood Dragon Armor
Zaeed - The Price of Revenge (Cerberus Network)

Cerberus Weapon and Armor (Cerberus Network)

Same problem, it always comes up before the game has a chance to load cerberus as well.

I'm pissed.

My "DownLoaded Content" (DLC) was working fine and was fully functional for weeks with NO INTERNET CONNECTION, then all of a sudden, out of the blue, *WHAM* - I get "unable to suthorize" every time I try to play.

What the HELL is this crap? I've already "authorized" the extra content - why the f*ck should I have to do it every time I play the damn game ?? I payed $50 for this game out of the box, and now I can't play it anymore without an internet connection - that's just plain unacceptable.

It's practically a bait-and-switch scam.

A working internet connection should NEVER be a prerequisite for a single-player game - EVER.

And yes, I know I could start a brand new game from scratch. I don't WANT to, and I shouldn't HAVE to.

There had better be a fix for this, or I'll NEVER buy another E/A Game.

And where's the Support for this game anyway?? All I see on this site are a bunch of 'moderated' customer blogs. Is this game unsupported, or what?

Just play the game without DLC, Bioware does a good enough job at it. DLC doesn't really add much.

I would play with DLC but being online all the time means sacrificing vital framerates (I use AMD fusion and shutdown wireless connection during gameplay). This is definitely something that shouldn't be there, but hey, guess what? EA continues to punish legit customers and pirates still get away with all of it anyway.

Thanks for the moral support. But I firmly believe that 'punishing' legit users is not the way to run a sucessful business - E/A games, are you listening?

Your suggestion to disable wireless *after* "authorization" is a good one, and I've actually been doing that, but it doesn't really solve the problem. Enough siad, I suppose.

As for "Bioware does a good enough job", I have to respectfully disagree. For $50, their game engine basically sucks - the player can't jump or drive, there's no option for keyboard-only operation, and the program runs like molasses on a dedicated 2.4 Ghz dual-core processor XP sys with 3 Gig memory (i.e. my system). Compare that with Orange Box, which is much less expensive, and has none of those shortcomings. Not to mention that Orange Box allows unrestricted non-internet gameplay, even if you bought it over the internet.

Of course, Orange Box has won 60 or so awards for excellence, so..

Anyway, I agree completely that " This is definitely something that shouldn't be there". I think the thing that urks me the most, however, is that it *wasn't* there until recently - it just magically appeared one day. I was happily bypassing the "not logged on" nag screen, and playing with the DLC completely intact for weeks. What else are they going to change when I'm not looking? Maybe they'll decide to download some confidential information off my hard drive, and sell it it to the highest bidder - who knows? Anything is possible when you can force your customers to be online, especially with a proprietary protocol. Something to think about, huh?

1. When it comes to DLC on the PC, the intended functionality is that you have to authenticate the content online once and then you should not have to be connected online for subsequent play sessions. There is a known issue where a few people are experiencing a problem requiring them to be connected each time they play using the DLC. We are continuing to investigate the problem.

2. Other than the 1.01 patch, we have not made any changes to the game so if it "worked fine for weeks" and now you're experiencing a problem, perhaps something else has changed on your system that could explain the difference in behaviour.

Well, Don, you're absolutely right. In fact, believe it or not, I just discovered not 5 minutes ago what the problem was (note the past tense).

Before I get into that though, I should mention that I do appreciate your clarification of the DLC authorization process' intended purpose. That makes sense. I can certainly understand the need to "authenticate the content online once". Having to authorize it every single time you play however, is a serious bug, and should not be taken lightly, for the reasons I've already outlined.

Anyway, enough pontificating. To make a long story short, I found out that this only occurs if you SAVE a game WHILE ONLINE. Apparently, I must have recently done just that, which led to the manifestation of this bug.

So if this is happening to you, you have to do the following:

1) Enable internet access (i.e. enable wireless, plug in your cable, whatever).

2) Invoke Mass Effect 2.

3) Go to Extras->Options->Online, and set both options to NO.

4) Exit Mass Effect 2.

5) Invoke Mass Effect 2 (again).

6) Use Alt-tab to switch back to Windows.

7) Disable internet access (i.e. disable wireless, unplug your cable, whatever)..

8) Go back to the running Mass Effect 2.

9) Re-Save all saved games that you saved while online. If you don't remember which ones they were, you'll have to Re-Save them all.

10) Exit Mass Effect 2

From that point on, as long as internet access is disabled before invoking Mass Effect 2, there's no problem. Interestingly enough though, if internet access IS enabled when you invoke ME2, it will pop up the "unable to authorize DLC" message - pretty weird.

And that's it! Thanks for listening - signing off..

Thank you for this reply, it looks like I won't have to play without DLC once the future patch is out then.

Only played with DLC to check out the new stuff but never played through the game with it enabled. Nothing is worse then trying to load your playthrough and your network is down.

I get that too. I've bunged in my code online, but ME2 says that it's already been used and won't activate on my account in game.

I also have the same problem. A while ago I purchased the game via Steam, downloaded content. Now all of the sudden I have to login to my EA account again. When I do this, it still doesnt recognize my already installed DLC and when I re-enter my Cerebus key, it says it's already in use. I cannot resume my game, even when I follow above instructions. Please help.

It happens to me to if CN doesn't connect. Glad to know it's a bug and not a "feature".

I have Mass Effect 2 installed on a PC without an internet connection, and I was really hoping to be able to play the DLC. I am somewhat urked that it is required to have the game itself directly linked to the internet and there is no way to transfer my purchased DLC over. Just hoping that eventually I can purchase a disc release with a collection of the DLC.

I've never had a problem with DLC. I've just built a new PC and installed ME2 and all the free DLC yesterday with no problems. With nothing changed at all, I bought and downloaded the appearance pack, but now I'm getting this message also.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I had witnessed not a single ME2 DLC authentication failure until today, shortly after I had installed Firewalker & Alt Appearance pack 1. I played with 2 of the new outfits working fine for about an hour, but when I next ran the game (and every attempt since) it connects to Cerberus OK but fails to authenticate the Alt Appearance pack.

What's going on??

Had the same problem and got it just fixed for me although it doesn't make much sense. I started the game several times and after the fifth or so a window of the Windows Firewall suddenly asked to grant Mass Effect 2 permission to connect. I played this game for weeks, always connecting to Cerberus and even using Alternative Appearence yesterday so it doesn't really make sense but allowing the connection at least fixed the problem.
So just try to disable any firewall. It might help.

edit: Reading JMC002's second post it might just have been coincidence :D

I've been having this issue ever since I moved, and have subsequently had lower bandwidth internet access (its wireless atm too). Maybe this is the issue?

I'm gonna have to agree with most of you, I think that HAVING to be online in order to play is asinine, but really, what are we gonna do about it? The only way to really hurt EA would to be for all of us to not buy any DLC or any of their games... yea, like thats gonna happen.

Anyways, hope that someone can find a work-around, instead of just ****ing incessantly.

Okay, so I have Mass Effect 2 installed on a computer with no internet access. I would like to play the DLC on this computer. Is there ANY way I can do this? My laptop with internet access can't run Mass Effect 2 or I wouldn't be having this problem...

Just hoping for a solution.

Just bought all DLCs and now I'm having the same issue (under Win7 64). Funny thing, I played the game minutes ago with no troubles; just after installing the DLCs ME2 complains about "cannot authorize" and "cannot connect" for no reason (again, I connected minutes before - at least the Cerberus Notebook opened on auto-connect).

Now I kinda fell a little stupid to pay money before getting hands on the stuff.

Well, lesson learnt, keep it in memory.

You are having the same old problem already answered, as far as I know, many times in many threads over the past five and a half months.  I personally don't download DLC; I wait until there is a compedium on disk instead, so I tend not to read these threads, since I just can't help the people who are asking.

However, it is summer, and participation on  forums such as this one are way, WAY down, so large percentages of questions won't be answered now.  Whether or not I know any specifics, I do know that I have seen the same old question come up very often.  The in-house Search is a weak kitten, but does exist, and does work, to an extent.

It is also possible to add a "site" directive to a Google search that points back to here, so that you can expand the list of criteria you can search for (the Social Forums' Seach function only finds a word in the subject line, or two very short words, also in the subject line, and only 51 of them, and only th every oldest.

I would use the Google option instead of waiting for an answer that may never be given while the question is even on one of the top ten pages of the index here.

*sigh*

I'm having the same issue. I installed the Firewalker pack a month or so ago but never went back into ME2 and played it since I already beat the main game. Now that I've gotten Overlord, I've gone back in the game and it says it can't authenticate the Firewalker DLC on my account, even though I log into the Cerberus Network and everything.

Anyone have any luck finding a real fix yet?

Edit: I just tried reinstalling the Firewalker pack, and luckily, my account felt like activating it this time. Problem solved!

I never seem to be able to play the game without remaining connected, but luckily it doesn't seem to hose down too many Mb per session, but I DID have a prob with the Aegis pack being authenticated after I did a system restore and realised I'd have to reload it as I'd restored to an earlier time than when I downloaded it. However, am now having the game crash often since loading Aegis (kestrel armour and rifle) pack. Anyone else having graphics probs with their game since down loading this?
