Not sure if this has been addressed before. I've been replaying DA: Awakening. The whole Blackmarsh quest shows quite a lot of fade ripping and closing. The pride demon the Baroness turned into can rip the veil and create a fade portal like in DAI and Justice has the ability to imbue your weapons with fade portal closing power. So opening or closing the fade is not a special ability from the Elven Orb. You also do not need the mark (the Inquisitor's fade hand thing) to open/close fade portals. Anybody with enough power, and is crazy enough to do it, can open fade portals.
What's the difference between what The Baroness and Justice were doing with the whole Fade Mark the Inquisitor has? Why is the mark so important? Solas should have known such a thing is possible, and that closing those portals isn't that troublesome. He has spirit friends; one of them must know the same things Justice knows.
