Well, I did finish the game. But I will most likely not buy another Bioware/EA offering either.
...
Great post.
I didn't get that far into the game. I couldn't get past the first boss, Control Interface. Not only brutally hard and confusing, but also not fun at all. I gave up.
In my otherwise (not so) glorious 3 hours of playtime (which included two play-throughs of the prologue up to Haven), I kept wondering what was my motivation to care about anything that was happening. When Cassandra kept telling me that she needed me to help fix this rift problem, I wanted to tell her to take a hike because I won't be her hostage.
There was no explanation of why establishing the inquisition was necessary. Maybe they explain that later, but can we get a little info up front? Why is it that one minute Cassandra calls the inquisition, and the next scene, it is fully staffed with a diplomat, entire camp of suppliers and tradespeople, soldiers, and so forth? Where did they all come from? (A minor quibble: why was Varric back at level 1 in the prologue, when I just finished playing DA II a few days ago with him at level 24? Why did that Haven camp worker tell me that Queen Anora loaned her to the Inquisition? King Alistar had Anora imprisoned in the tower in DA:O. This breaks continuity for me somewhat.)
I struggled to get emotionally invested in this game, because I feel like they had already foreshadowed the disappointment that would inevitably follow if I played any further. This severely dampened my urgency to resolve the control scheme problems I had.
I feel like I've been punked by BioWare on two Dragon Age games in a row.
