Yes, quite simple. Except... wait, your statement reflects exactly the common understanding of addiction that this article says is suprisingly incorrect. So, maybe not.

The real problem is the thing the drugs offer an alternative to.  If the other thing can be made better or eliminated then the need for an escape is diminished.

That's the article writer's opinion, not necessarily true or right. Meh, it's only my opinion too.

 

But I have a very addictive personality.. I have been addicted to drugs in my past, addicted to certain games.. it all works in a similar manner, in regard to the brain. The only difference between a drug and being hooked on a game is, you don't get some chemically altering WOW experience while engaging in the latter. Well actually.. you can. But you get the point. ;)

Damn, I forgot what a trap the taverns in Inquisition were... everytime I try to leave another great song starts and I have to stay and sing along.

Cause that was so long ago.. when the DQ machine was merely an infant.

 

But yes, from that point onwards it became somewhat of a... hobby that everyone enjoyed, to the point where she couldn't be necro'd anymore.
