In my first playthrough, I went through it blind and Bethany died in the deep roads. I was like "Nope!" and promptly reloaded and spent another 2 hours or so doing the deep roads expedition. No sibling of mine was gonna die of the blight.
Exactly. I actually did something I never do and googled whether there was a possibility for her to survivie despite having her join. Warden Bethany is my canon ever since; especially cause it adds layers to both her personality and her then no longer flawless relationship with Hawke.
The siblings/family focus in DA2 really spoke to me, I'm glad someone appreciates it as much as I do! Bethany and Carver both were interesting characters if you allowed yourself to look past their main function and write them off being only that.
It was hilarious when you had Isabela in your party and Beth would be split between asking Isabela about "love" coming of age, and still being too well-behaved to allow herself to be interested. Or how Hawke would lash out at Isabela when she "explained" anyways, cause that's totally what I would do. On the same note, it was heartbreaking when Hawke calls her out on her cold heartedness in their second meeting, and she tells him she'd rather died than what "he did to her". I had never thought about it that way, and it felt like a punch to the stomach.
