I developed a very binary rating system for games or entertainment.
Either it's playable, or not. I'm quick to completely discard a game I bought for one detail that grates me enough -like The Witcher 2 & 3 or Destiny- as much as I can look past anything which is collectively making them "bad", if enough details respectively check off things I enjoy -like the Thief reboot, or XCOM: The Bureau.
For that reason, I only use reviews to distill whether or not enough of these things are met, without really looking at any final verdict too closely. I'm not damning people who make dissecting entertainment sort of a science, because I understand it, too, can be a form of recreation or hobby, or an important part of those for some.
It's just to me, video games aren't the bottom score of their qualities and faults. They're entertaining, or they're not.
