Ah, I play to the end when I create a new character (unless I toss them due to CC mistakes). But yeah I've 8 full playthroughs planned and I'm on number 6.
You're catching up to me! well kind of. I've killed Cory on 10 different characters now. Finished up a couple that were close the other day 
anyway back to ME2 before I get too distracted..
My Kyrrah story is.. pretty well fleshed out, I know her like I know myself even though she's very different then I.
My inquisitor perhaps is one of the characters that I feel "closer" age wise. In DAI makes sense to me imagining him as a middle aged character. However, my Hawke and my Warden were both in their mid-20s. I'm Atheist/Agnostic and my inquisitor is definitively Andrastian (not a fanatic though) that is a key difference between us (other than him being a badass archer that I am definitely not)

I like to believe I'm less vain than that (which I'm obviously being, gameplay-wise). His equipment is part of his character at this point. The Inquisitor Hat looks like it's been with the character for a long time (I especially love the folded little map stuck in the trim ribbon), which is why I chose it in the first place. The leather coat helps me headcanon where he carries all his tools, knives & traps.
For me to understand why specific choices would be made by Kyrrah I felt I needed to 'know' some of her history. I take the dialogue conversation choices as a base foundation, and add a bit more to them like a mini-scenario to each dialogue choice that is about her past, family etc. It's not a from birth kind of thing though, just bits and pieces to make her more.
I always feel as if they're people sort of living in my subconscious, more like they woke up rather than that I created them.
I know I probably sound schizo, but it seriously feels like they're "born" fully formed, rather than me figuring out an idea. You know?

I'll be honest, I have absolutely NO idea what my characters are going to be like until they make it out of CC. I might have some idea while creating them what kind of choices I want to make with them (Qunari pissing everyone off), but I let them take on a personality once I get them in the game and see how they are going to react. Only think about backstory if prompted.

Who said awesome clothes wasn't that amazing equipment he uses out in the field which is comfortable, and useful for where he is? I never said it would be high fashion! haha

Well, I always play a character who's similar to myself & only make up a cool backstory for them. Given I downright resent religion (not religious people, which is an important difference. I am a lover of people), I can never bring myself to - well knowing that being "religious" makes a lot more sense in Thedas than it does on good old planet earth.
I'd have no problem RPing that as I'm a religious person myself. Easier to RP something close to home.
Perhaps that's why I can't rp that sort of thing. I'm not religious, almost not at all. I can understand other people being religious but it's not a notion for me.
How interesting to read how different people create and play their characters. I'm awful at role-playing and my canon is always the 'person' who I feel I am like in real life and that's how I make decisions in game. This is probably why my canon is always human. I'm really enjoying my elf playthrough but even so I still find it hard to not be 'me' personality-wise.

I've done it, but it's hard. Prince Aubrey was Andrastian because it's how he was raised, but he only said he was Andraste's chosen in order to be worshipped and to stroke his ego.
Iolan is converting to Andrasteism because he fell for Cassandra and is trying to leave his Dalish past in the past.
