oh great, now I'll have more decisions that'll impact on a successful mission / people living or dying? Lucky I'm resuing the crew and not doing anything else. I don't want some to die if I take time to do Legion's stupid mission, and I fully expect that to happen if I don't go get them now.

On that regard you have chosen..wisely...but you will have a lot of choices to make on the actual SM.  Seriously ME 2 is my favorite game all because of the SM.  Its the perfect ending and the perfect build up and pay off for everything in ME 2.  Everything you have done has led up to this moment, its actually quite the masterpiece of gaming.

You can complete Legion's mission without the crew dying.

Not exactly. Legion's mission is the only exception. In that case, the whole crew and companions survive.

Weird.  I always activate legion before going to the galaxy map so I always do his mission before it becomes an issue.

Your crew will survive if you do their missions and earn their loyalty.

Crew = staff on the ship, companions = armed people running with the player on missions.

All this talk makes me wanna crank ME again. I can't play from the start though.. My copy is bugged to the shithouse and I've overplayed too much.

I couldn't stand replaying from ME1 so I got the Genesis comic and I'm replaying from ME2.

Looks like crew surviving has to do with companions chosen as specialists/leader of team B (and their loyalty I assume, loyalty needs to mean something right?), and possibly if you left straight after collector ambush on the Normandy (which I did) or not. My crew survived.
