Ugh, yeah, that one was hard. Nothing like the potential anguish on another planet with another buddy if you make bad choices (how was that for vague non-spoileryness) but pretty bad.
On an unrelated note, did you touch the feces analyzer?

I think you are doing it wrong. My spirit blade wrecks everything, especially demons. If you need tips on how to play KE, let me know. I found an awesome build on YouTube and I have been kicking major ass as a KE.

Ugh you guys made me wanna play ME again. I finally acquired the Genesis comic for ME2 so I didn't have to play 1.
I made a danglybag Shepard, vanguard, and had him romance Ash in the comic (makes it more fun for what I plan to do in ME3 but as to avoid spoilers I won't say)
Just dunno whether to go for Miranda.. (that arse God damn!) Jack, or Tali.. I'm leaning towards Tali to try something difference cause I have done the previous two before.
Did you decide on romance yet? My vote is for Tali btw.

Did he go out singing like he did in my playthrough? The singing bit makes it more heartbreaking. Also, I cried like a baby too.

Bear in mind, my gripe was strictly with how spirit blade is controlled in combat, not with knight-enchanter as a specialization.

Oh. I get it now. It's definitely easier on a console with a controller. I assigned it to the (X) button and you can hold it down like an auto attack. I just fade step into combat and start whacking enemies with my sword. I also use fade cloak a lot because it is so much fun with the detonation. I love sending enemies flying into the air.Since it's a gripe, which I really shouldn't be doing about Bioware in the DQ, I'm spoilering it.

It's not a general attack , it's an ability, and one with a delay: gotta wait for mage to finish swinging, recover then attack again. Makes a lot of sense to me for it to be on a normal ability key binding. Yes I play on pc, I hit '1' to use it and never personally had an issue with that, however with spirit blade being a secondary ability for me I'm not using it every single fight, as I play range until faced with stuff that have guard. Then mr laser blade comes out to eat the guard for breakfast.
I have a feeling it's not meant to be used as a main attack. But oh well.
Well FWIW I am going to redo again as KE and just muddle through. Though I am going to do it more like you seem to. Just gonna enjoy those passives and I guess keep the unimproved spirit blade around as an emergency "oh **** I'm surrounded" thingy. Though frankly, mind blast / fade step works pretty well for that already.

And no, you're meant to throw static cage, chain lightning from range then fade cloak in and smash them with a spirit blade swing or two then fade step out so you aren't in the way of any melee companions. <- roflstomp one man style
