That works too. I prefer to be in the thick of battle next to my tank so I can give them lots of barriers. I also use armour made with fade touched silverite to give my mage guard. The key to surviving as a melle KE is to keep a barrier up all the time. And the passives work really well to help you deal lots of damage and survive a few sword hits.I never sacrifice myself
And no, you're meant to throw static cage, chain lightning from range then fade cloak in and smash them with a spirit blade swing or two then fade step out so you aren't in the way of any melee companions. <- roflstomp one man style
Drinkquisition! (assuredly nsfw)

I have never played a mage that had the barrier skill, I cart a companion around for that even if they aren't always 100% accurate lol. I also have no problems playing almost solely melee KE even without using a barrier ability myself. I've had a LOT of practise. 5 finished games (character lvl 23+ at the end) with Knight Enchanter mages, all on hard difficulty and all playing somewhat differently. One was solely melee, others were mixes, one of which was solely ranged mage. Kyrrah's my first full nightmare run though.

hmm? I'm onto ME3 now, Mordin just died while dispersing the genophage cure. I cried like a little girl, didn't like the guy for combat but he was awesome to chat to on the ship. Me2 final mission was a perfect result.

I play on Nightmare difficulty now so I have to have barrier and use armour that gives guard to be a melle KE or I die a thousand deaths. This playthrough is the first time I have done a melle KE and so far I am having so much fun. My first mage playthrough on Nightmare difficulty was as a ranged KE and it wasn't as much fun for me. I always felt like I was playing the class the wrong way.

Kyrrah is nightmare knight enchanter and still doesn't require herself having barrier ability however, she's ranged lightning mainly and I've had enough practise plus nightmare mode is really not much different then hard mode. Very easy
. But everyone plays differently. In the end, the only wrong way is not surviving a fight at all ![]()

I don't get killed very often and the guard on hit armour is mostly for Jaws of Hakkon because it is stupidly hard. And how much fun is fade cloak with the detonation? Do you still use fade cloak to blow up enemies who get close as a ranged KE?

Fade cloak is my best friend
, I use it more then spirit blade on my ranged preffed characters haha . But yeah i grab that speciality for the passives, and fade cloak. Not for spirit blade, Jazzy Super Shiny Sabre Laser is a perk.

Do you use Disruption Field at all? I try to use it sometimes but I always run out of mana too quickly by swinging the sword and it costs too much.

Okay, you know how I said ME3 was the first video game to make me cry? That was what got me to shed tears. Thane dying. I was a wreck finishing that mission after he gets stabbed.Dammit now I'm crying again. I bawled my eyes out when drell-man died too, bloody hell is all my Suicide Squad going to die at this rate?
Seriously Shepard? You're just going to stand there and watch the guy who went on a suicide mission with you fight that Cerberus clown on his own? And you wait until he's fatally wounded to move?

And this is why I didn't feel anything but annoyed when Thane died.
Three healthy people with guns stand by and watch the dying guy fight (and lose to, seriously Thane you have a damn gun. Stand back and shoot his ass!) an idiot with a sword.

A perfect moment to cry a little.
I *ahem* may have shouted, rather angrily. at my (monitor) Shepard a little for just standing there that entire fight scene. Then he got stabbed and the tears started.. then he died and I had to have a good ol' sob. I did however love his line where he says that the assassin should be embarrassed for having such a long fight with a half-dead drell, or something like that.
Then you see both mordin and Thane's names on the Normandy Memorial thing, that was just... *sniffles*
