Depends on the anime style, as they are many styles and many types (genres) for everyone in Japan and outside of Japan.

Didn't say I hated them. I just can't stand watching them. Which I guess would be hating them. Very hard to explain and I don't have the patience to write that essay. Let's just leave it at I don't like them. Moving on.

It's very simple for me; it's a matter of culturally indoctrinated appreciation.

 

To use a somewhat sloppy example: What people often find hilariously trashy about eastern acting, for example, is not bad acting per se, it is just fulfilling different expectations to the approach. A Brit would look dead from the neck down to them in turn.

 

For the same reason, I have a hard time appreciating the style of humor, romance, action or violence in anime; because basically everything about these is "off" for me and I can't really help it.
