I post in DA2 forums too much.  There should really be a penalty DQ shot for bringing DA2 into a DA:I forum.  Maybe I just want an excuse for a shot.  Yes, yes I do.

*shrugs* To clarify he is alright to me.  But a lot of people hand wrung and wahed at Bioware because he is so critical to the plot.  When he is nothing of the sort.  At best he adds flavor and kind of changes the context of one of the story missions.  Nothing more.  

 

I rarely used him (I think that for my playstyle Liara filled the same role better, my team for most of ME3 was Vega and Liara). However, I think that he added a LOT of context to the story and the menace that the Reapers were, that would have been lost without having him around. Without this context I possibly would have chosen a different ending for the game.

Not trying to open a can of worms in the pleasant environment of DQ, but without learning about Javik's plight I would have chosen either the Control ending (trying naively to do what the Illusive Man preached, but using the Reapers to benefit all the races and not only Humans) or the Synthesis (like Saren wanted), because it seemed unfair with EDI and the "reformed" Geth (in peace with the Quarians) to choose the Destruction ending. It was Javik's experience what instilled in my Shepard enough distrust in the "good intentions" of the Catalyst to end choosing the Destruction ending. In my Shepard's mind, all of these artificial constructs could eventually be rebuilt and coexist, but without the reaper menace looming in the horizon.

I can see that.  But well, and this was unintentional, but his back story and Abigail's backstory were just so perfectly meldled and fit together.

Background: The Foleys were a small off shoot of the Boltons who split off from the Boltons and then do not recognize their rulership of the North in the wake of the Red Wedding. They are hunters and supreme marksmen, given that the woods around the Fols is thick with game and wild life. They have also spent several years fending off Wilding attacks, and are current allies of House Baratheon...though recent events have made them consider such an alliance.
