Btw, I will be dedicating the weekend to The Witcher. I have struggled many times to get into a groove with this damned thing, but I want to give it one last good faith effort. Question is, if I just flat out cannot get past the weirdness of the first game, would it cripple my potential enjoyment of 2 or 3 of I end up bypassing the first one and just going on to # 2?
So if I end up staying up after this first cup of coffee, I'll probably be firing it up.

Yeah I read that, which is why I asked
I would advise jumping straight to TW3, tbh. The combat in the first two games isn't really enjoyable and the port option, as you well know, sucks so it isn't like you're missing out on anything if you jump to 3. Only difference being is you will be able to understand the story better.. but that can be remedied by reading up about it.
TW3 is also very different from the previous two so if you don't enjoy them, chances are you'll enjoy 3.

Crafting Zither? I thought that was a character?
It is a character, but you can unlock them by crafting their armor. It's a great way to unlock characters without waiting for RNG to see fit to give them to you.
