I have always found Russian culture to be fascinating.

 

Those I enjoy the most are usually profound happiness covered in a coat of tragedy... as if the authors thought that plain, open positivity would be not relatable enough, for the often harsh times their readers probably have endured. I think many make the mistake of brushing off Russian literature as catering to darkness and tragedy alone, but I cannot believe that's true. That is merely the starting point that makes it graspable & real.

 

You know, it's not unlike the blues music I adore. It's often a very sad theme, but the message is always a hopeful one.

 

At least, that's my interpretation from the few things I've come to know.

Because usually it's hard to explain, that, for example, "The Black Raven" (or "Black Crow", maybe you heard it), on surface it's a slow, gloomy song of dying soldier. 

And it is gloomy, but it's not about death. It's about farewells, about parting in peace.

 

Or why "Crime & Punishment" has a happy ending (sort of), especially for Raskolnikov?

 

But yes! It is a happy ending!

You formulated it so well, it's about restoration and salvation through enduring, it's about free will, choices and consequences.

How to explain that through tragic, nasty, dark and gloomy Dostoevsky managed to highlight love, hope and beauty.

And, in rich variety of characters and fates of Dostoevsky's, we can so clearly see ourselves.

At least, when I read Dostoevsky's books they are resonate with me, even though it's hard to compare his time and people with modern life.

Don't think I have played a male character in 5 years when given a choice. Something about having basically the face that looks back at me in the mirror on a character I'm playing makes me go


I've tried making male characters of different skin colors but they end up looking like, well, really tanned Caucasians that look a good deal like me. I call this the self-image rubberband effect

The person who sent it has one post to that username, so who knows who it really is.  General opinion on this is they want to use this oh-so-reasonable sounding idea of making everyone in the game choose-able by the player to not very subtly eliminate character traits the don't like.  I think we can all guess which ones they are thinking of.

It's a nice idea, but it would make completing the game impossible. The vagueness of the Inquisitor's origuns, not fully addressed by characters in the game, multiplied ten times over... cinematics that never work because of having to account for too many variables... ten times as much resources on dialogue and VA work to accommodate all the possibilities.

It's a totally ridiculous idea. Sorry.

Guess you'll just have to accept that you can't like or get on with everyone in the games... Just like in real life.

Nothing is impossible. The conceptors have the skills and the ambition.

 

The main character can be defined. Why not the allies too?

 

It's a brilliant idea that will push Bioware to the top. Their rivals won't do it. And gamers always beg for more and more liberty.

 

And I said...

 

 

The protagonists of DA2 and the Mass Effect series benefited from being more clearly defined - by limiting the options there it allowed the writers to make their stories much stronger.  By comparison, the possible protagonists of Origins and Inquisition are weaker (still good, but not as strong) due to there not being the option to write scenes and dialogue to account for all the possibilities present in every conversation where their traits and backstory should come up.

 

And you want to introduce that "weakness" to every companion character as well?

 

The writing would end up so watered down the characters would be hopelessly bland, and the game would suffer for it.  They don't have infinite time and money to spend, you know - they have to pick their "battles" and make the best game they can with the resources available.  We're not going to get good characters with strong stories to tell if the writers have to make ten times as many of them - and make them totally interchangeable - just so people can populate their playthroughs with characters who will agree with them all the time.  Where's the drama, the fun, the interest, in that?

 

It's a silly idea.  Sorry.

Just finished watching Jupiter Ascending. It's... not exactly what I thought it would be. It's not a bad watch but I don't think I will see it again. But, it did have an ending which made me smile a little, which is always nice. I love a happy ending.

You haven't heard? It's broken. Like, "closing sale in Steam" broken.

Don't work with AMD graphic cards, with Nvidia you are getting steady 1-10 FPS... 

In short, PC release is officially suspended by Warner Bros.
