.. lol turkey.. Bald Eagle makes sense, they're found all over America, and very almost only America, in now decent numbers (no longer a threatened species). It's also a fisher, mostly just eats fish when in the wild. Australia doesn't have an official national bird or animal. Just unofficial ones.

Emu is an unofficial symbol, not an official one. It's on the Australian coat of arms but was never actually accepted as an official national symbol, along with the red kangaroo. Unless something changed since I was at school...

 

Pretty much Australia's only non-flag (or colours or anthem) official national symbol is the Golden Wattle (tree).

Edit: apparently we have a national gemstone too..
