interestingly enough, I said Silmarillion ( another book by tolkein) not LotR.

Turns out, after a google search, the guy unknowingly married his sister, Nienor, who he had found badly injured. She had amnesia, couldn't remember who she was. he hadn't seen her/heard from her since she was a baby or something so had no idea she was his sister at the time. Some sorceror came along and cured her amnesia, she then killed herself because she realised she'd married, and carried the child of, her brother. Turin committed suicide as well after this.

*drinks to Tolkein and fantasy drama*

Damn.

Silmarillion was a difficult read. I found it hard to keep my head around what was going on once I got a quarter through. Once one gets the hang of it though it's really interesting if you're into Tolkein's fantasy world of middle earth and its lore.

If you're not, it is not the book for you. rofl

Lord of the Rings trilogy is still one of my favourite series. but I have quite a few favourites so it's not special.

Interestingly enough LOTR and the Similarion take place in the same fictional universe, so it makes good short hand.  Also interestingly enough that since I have only seen (and read) LOTR that is the only place I would have heard the reference...and I could have sworn there is a passing reference to 'Turin' somewhere in the LOTR books and or movies.

*drinks to Tolkien including the basic story of Oedipus.*

Damn.

Interestingly enough? The Silmarillion is a huge description of  that universe - his lifework.

You could actually say it's not the same world setting :( everywhere the Silmarillion took place is buried under the sea by the time Lord of the Rings, or even The Hobbit, comes by. And yeah Turin's name is mentioned like once, maybe twice, in Lord of the Rings, that was the book I read first and remember the name from.

But nooooo, it cannot all be bundled under LotR, as that refers to one trilogy.. not Tolkein's other 15+ books and tales which never got made into movies. Excluding The Hobbit from that count.

*overly-correct-term needing person grumbles*

I'd constantly get mixed up if it really was all bundled into one acronym anyway. There's too many of the bloody things.

Whoa... sounds like a greek tragedy

you edited.. twice?

anyway, yeah. I didn't bother shorthanding his life before finding his amnesiac sister lol. It's not much better.

Fair enough I guess.  I just prefer shoehorning it all under one master name.
