In war, victory!

isn't that for the Grey Wardens, not the Templars?

We're mixing up our causes! Slay it in the name of the DrinkQuisition instead!

mm tasty cocktail.

Also is it fair if I post in one of the DAI vs Witcher 3 threads after just playing it for four hours and say everything DA I is getting better?  So far?  The game is good but I feel like I am grinding for no good reason.

I didn't understand that comment. Witcher 3 is better after 4 hours or you enjoyed DAi more?

I would give the nod to DA I I mean its barely but...and I cannot believe I am going to say this.. the Hinterlands is fifty times better then White Orchard.    To my anyways.  I mean I am enjoying the game and I can see where a lot of the 'this game is so much better then DA I' crowd is coming from because there are bits that I am noticing which...well I am liking more...but the first area is attrocious.  And what's worse apparently you do not get any XP from killing bad guys.  Which is DRIVING ME UP THE FREAKING WALL.  I mean I am taking on level 5 enemies and I am a simple level 1 at this point and yet my XP bar is not really going up.  Most bone headed decision by someone I have seen make about gameplay in a long arse time.

I've played the first 2 hours of TW3 , I couldn't get into, I enjoy DAI more at this particular time. I will finish tw3 at a later date. It would probably help if I finished tw2 first rofl.

I really enjoyed tw2 so I'm sure if I play tw3 on the right day I'll enjoy it too. DAI will remain high on my favourites list, I am not good at comparing games as I like each game I play for different reasons.

Well I do too I am very tolerant...I think my tolerance for different games is why I like the DA (and to an extent the ME series) so much considering each game tends to sometimes be VASTLY different then its predecessors.  Just look at the difference between DA 2 and DA I.  My two favorite games in the series, and yet they could not be more different then night and day.

I think I am about four hours.  I am getting into it from a combat perspective but you have no idea how frustrating it is for me to find out that you are taking on all these bad guys levels 3, 4, 5 and so on and NOT getting any XP for it...but yet when you wave your hand in someone's face you get over fifty.  fml.

And yes, DA I is for me what I call a 'Tier 1 game' I really think if I am honest there are three (maybe...well 5) games that I would call tier 1.  But three is the number that sticks out the most.

I am going to try to take some screenshots because I just discovered that I can do it by saying "take a screenshot" Here's hoping I can take some good ones that way.

Keep me updated on the Quest to Destroy Seaweed Bacon. Lol.

The way I see DAI is that while it could have done many things much better, it's still a leap ahead of half the games, and then some, in my games list of over 300 games.

Is it polished? nah, but it's good where it's meant to be (companions, group battling through the game etc). It's a story about Thedas, not your protagonist, which a lot of people have trouble wrapping their heads around. Where-as Mass Effect and the Witcher? they're stories about (main focus being) one protagonist/player character. Dragon Age has taken such a different path in that regard, which is why they have given themselves (writers and devs) too much to do for each game so we don't get the best game they could do, rather we get the best they manage in their allotted time frame.

My opinion anyway, I'm not willing to debate about opinions :)

Awww but that is fun. :P  Besides we are just having a friendly chat.  And I did aprrecitate when DA 2 made it about the player character.  Which...I think I prefer really.  The way DA 2 handled its characters was better...imo.  But DAI had the better characters.

DA2 also had less major characters if I recall correctly, but it still falls under the series being about Thedas, thanks to getting a different protagonist for DAi

*points at Hawke showing up as uncontrollable* Personally I hope they don't do that again for a DA game, it doesn't fit the series having previous protagonists show up as npcs in later games, that being said I wish I could have my Warden, Hawke and Inquisitor in one game even though I know it would hurt the game more then help it. DAI has amazing characters, as does DAO.

On the topic of protagonist main focus (Hawke/Shepard/Geralt) where the player character is a specific pre-designed person with a preset history in the game (other then looks/gender) vs non-pre-designed protagonists where it really doesn't matter who they are, just that someone took that lead role (DAI, DAO, KoA) . I'm on the fence about, I actually enjoy both styles of rpg a lot. I love Mass Effect and Kingdoms of Amalur equally for example, just for very different reasons. Just like I enjoy DAO and DAI without thinking one takes stuff away from the other. I know, I'm weird like that.

Usually I don't chat about stuff like this because people turn nasty about differing opinions, I know that doesn't happen in this particular thread though lol.

Now while I really loved Mass Effect, there is a reason why I truly adore KoA and Dragon Age, and that is having full control over who my character is, not just looks.

I may love Esri Shephard and she's extremely dear to me, but she was also very set in stone between two paths that I could take. Whereas with Amalia I never feel like I need to take a certain choice. Amalia is very maleable, and I love that about her.

Don't get me wrong I love both styles to but DA 2 is the only RPG I have played where it feels like the main character (Hawk) goes on a journey and has an arc.  A real arc.  DA I the Inquisitor did have a sort of arc it was there but it did not feel as real as Hawke's...something I hope they do in future DA games which I think they can achieve even without a pre set protag.  And all the characters in DA 2 had their own arcs.  In DA I, even though they were 'better' characters I do not really feel they had their own arc.

That right there is a huge main difference between a player character who is pre-designed, and one where it doesn't matter who they are, just that someone showed up to do the dirty work.

Character arcs work best with pre-designed characters, not with the "some random guy/gal is enough" ones sadly, so I do not see that sort of thing happening in any game where you get almost free reign over creating your character, right down to race.

Don't get me wrong, I would love my random gal Inky to have a proper character arc etc. I just know that realistically it would never happen *dreams crushed*

DAi did the neutral personality, and ability to pick and choose reactions to every situation as you like, really well. I prefer it's dialogue to Hawke, but I do miss that strong sense of connection I had with Hawke and Shepard which I can't get with my Warden or Inquisitor without head-canon/fanfiction stuff being needed to fill the many gaps.

That being said, my Inquisitor is my favourite DA character to date :D

I can't give a proper response to anything DA2. I barely have a full playthrough, too many panic attacks from the spiders.

But I loved the chances to shape your inquisitor through discussions with Josie and Bull, and other cast members.

I did have a strong connection to Shepard, but I also have a strong connection to my Wardens and Inquisitors.

I do love Josephine's couple of questions about your past, I however dislike that if I'm a human noble and mage I can only discuss either my family or my time at the circle with her, not both. Picking one skips the other :crying:

Vivienne's chat about the rebellion thoughts and time at the circle is good though, chatting about one does not skip the other, so i get a nice full discussion and all chances to add personality and past to my human mage Inquisitor. unlike Josephine's *shakes fist*

Mother Giselle's and Cassandra's religious chats are a nice way to define the Inquisitors faith or lack of. I think Cassandra asks where you're from (which is preset) and if you want to go back (player choice) which is good.

My Aeryn is my favorite protag in DA.  I loved her arc.  And will never forget the moment she became awesome.  Where Orsino and Meredith were bitching over who would leave, my Hawk, my mercenary, selfish, looking out for her and her own, Hawk, said 'no shut up i'm in charge, follow me, and we will get this done.'  It was an awesome moment of character growth.

Personally, I like a more open ended protagonist that I can let my imagination run loose with to my heart's desire.  That said, I did love the story in DA2 and think it probably had the richest story of the three.  So what am I saying?  Basically, Bioware does it good whichever way they go, I suppose.

Witcher...  I won't get into that much here, but suffice it to say I want to like the game, I really do, but I can't even play it right now because I am feeling antagonistic towards it because of the constant "witcher blah blah DAI blah" threads.  I need to get myself to let go of that before I try to continue my Witcher 1 playthrough.

(confession... I think I love Skyrim the most)

I thought that's because mages go live at the circle as soon as their powers are noted, right? I thought they didn't have contact with their families after they went to the circle? So that would be why it gets skipped over, yeah?

I like talking to Cass, definitely. Always good chats.

Skyrim is a perfect example of some unknown random prisoner (who noone really knows why they were a prisoner to start with) becomes the famous world saving champion.

*cracks up laughing and falls off chair holding her sides*

I love Skyrim, over 400 hours played and I've never finished the main story of that game. bahahaha

There's actually an option in the mage discussion part with Josephine where you can say you visited your home and family a lot. So no, it shouldn't be skipped over just because you choose to discuss your mage stuff as well (instead).
