Sorry Dazzle & @all, I had to log off there. When the internet starts to affect your real state of mind in a negative way, it's time to watch some trees.
It was just the next "Not being able to be homophobic or racist is bad RPG design"-discussion.
My conscious self tells me, I need to take those people seriously and reason with them in a diplomatic fashion to win them over. It is their adamancy -underlining how important this truly is for them- and their preparedness to have every non-argument under the sun ready at hand, to make moderate people look bad -same implication- which makes me very sad sometimes. After all, this is what it is truly about: You cannot seriously expect us to believe, with all this energy, relentlessness and resourcefulness you are putting into this, that you are truly about preserving "roleplaying liberty".
My conscious self knows that every difference between people deserves discussion. Yet I really wish we as a people, as a society, could stop still making this nonsense an issue to waste our time with. It's been long enough. This is, ironically, the RL opposite of the ingame freedom you claim to wish to preserve. Your freedom ends with those of others. In the same vein, your representation ends where it excludes others.
That's not a matter of "freedom of speech" either, possibly one of the most commonly misinterpreted rights you are given: Nobody can forbid your opinion. But just as well, nobody is required to give you any sort of public stage to voice an opinion nobody wants to hear. If a newspaper doesn't print an article, it is an editorial decision. If a forum moderator deletes your post, it's a guideline violation. If a writer decides to not include your sociopolitical views, it's an artistic decision. If your government were to censor a conversation, now that would be violating someone's right of free speech. Not yours, however. I am willing to bet big moneys that a nude scene between two homosexuals is more likely to get banned, than a line spewing hatred against them.
It is curious behaviour that every claim is followed by mentioning equally militaristic people on the other side, ye olde SJWs, as if that would somehow award them a proportional headroom for even more bigotted exclamations, as long as they remain more peacefully worded than the opposition. It is a curious notion that the mere lack of exposure already qualifies as censorship.
It is sad that someone fighting for social justice became an insult.
It is sad the avoidance at all cost of which apparently remains the only thing all people can still come together for.
