As far as dating, I am getting the vibe from all the other posts that I don't really view it as most of the rest in the DQ do. I am quite the traditionalist, in fact. Not at all into "hooking up" or "friends with benefits" or any of that resurgent free love stuff from the 60s. I start dating someone, it is immediately exclusive as far as I am concerned until she or I tell the other, "thanks, been grand, but it's not working out." (that sounds more flippant than I meant it to)

Well, I probably need to clarify one thing.  I do actually enjoy that initial early dating phase when we're getting to know one another.  Going for a movie or miniature golf or whatever and looking forward to seeing her again.  The "honeymoon phase" as Donk called it.   But  yeah, then you slowly transition from the rush/excitement of the early relationship to the deeper side, and that's just as grand.

 

Oh, also, I didn't mean to come across as preachy.  If others enjoy the friends with benefits and hooking up, more power to them, ya!   Just not my personal cup of tea.

 

ETA:  Man, if I were in a pool right now, I'd probably really look like that shocked image I posted last night!  I slept through a helluva rain storm apparently, and it is still lightly raining with some kick ass thunder and lightning.  Over 2" fell overnight and I was so tired, I slept through the whole damned thing

Lesse... I'm probably the oldest person in the DQ, I think it is safe to say. I've not been in a relationship for, oh, going on 4 years now, and I'm pretty much fine with that for the time being. Perfectly happy sharing my life with my dog and two cats for the time being.

Oh, never done the online dating thing. Not opposed to it, mind you, but I didn't grow up with the internet, so it's not anything I was ever familiar with. I'd rather just meet someone in a store or park or whatever.


Hell, her Royness still scares me! Donk (who I very first remember seeing posting as Behemoth very briefly before she switched to Honorable Bigot) is just my best buddy

*Hands up*  Happily married person here to the most amazing guy and I feel very, very lucky but I know it's not just about luck it's about incredibly hard work and compromise, compromise especially because there are two egos in a relationship.  Do I still date him because we are married?  You bet. I date the hell out of him because simply if he's happy I'm happy.  Of course relationships don't aways work for lots and lots of reasons and some work against all odds.  I feel very strongly though, that it's better to be single than to be in an unhappy relationship if it can't be fixed.

 

eta:  Yes Beren, I agree with you and even though Paragon 'messes' about on here with Cullen et al (which btw hubby finds hilarious), I don't do 'internet romances' because I would consider that cheating.  Oh, though there is my friend Rick ......

I didn't have that slow transition from meeting/honeymoopn phase to living together, I think that's why I don't remember that first phase much, if at all.. I checked, it was 2 months. april 1st was the movie date thing, living together by july. Very fast, but it has worked for us.

My guy was shocked the first time he saw me finish a playthrough (that balcony scene at the end) with an LI that wasn't Cullen, I think it was Blackwall. He's like "are you ok, that's.. new.." so surprised I laughed so hard at it.
