hehe Browall. I swear sometimes it seems like Blackwall has the smallest number of fans out of all the companions lol
He is one of my favourite Dragon Age characters.
The reason for both my fascination and his comparatively small fanbase, is the fact that he's up against probably the flashiest cast so far. I mean, the secret Elven trickster god, the mega-overdrive-cool-breaks-all-the-rules Qunari, the Human bloody Spirit, the first Tevinter group member who's also the first real male homosexual character etc. etc. Blackwall seems almost comically normal -even after his revelation- compared to those folks.
He doesn't have any superpowers or connections; he's just a burnt-out middle aged guy, who wants to make himself as useful as possible. When he gives advice, it's something he's learned himself by failing at it, and it's never condescending tales of wisdom. Ironically given his main plot, I value him as the most genuine of all the companions - I admire his loyalty & probably ridiculous insistence to be chivalric, even though nobody would take that seriously coming from a guy like him. But he doesn't do it to impress, but because he thinks it's just right.
That sounds pretty tacky, but yeah, I can relate to that, and I confess there is something appealing about the phantasy of becoming a big, clichée hero late in your life, and even after all you may have or have not done during your "peak". Once you have looked back on things in your life genuinely, and decided to take a wholly different course that changes most important things around you, his story means a lot.
*looks around, clears throat*
...piece of my soul, for the lot of you to loot.
