So, in terms of a sexual scene, you're saying you have to see them f*ck in order to get the full understanding of that relationship?

In terms of a death scene, you have to see the guy get beheaded, in order to get the full understanding of that death?

No. You really don't.

When you are dealing with a visual medium the rule is 'show, don't tell'. If a physical relationship is part of the story then showing it is telling the story as it unfolds. If someone gets killed then showing it is once again how you tell it. You don't imply, you SHOW IT.

Which is why you add the fade to black. Or you put the focus on someone else. You don't have to actually see it for that rule to be true.

About the thread Roaming mentioned (I know we've moved on but I had to leave for a while when I was in the middle of writing this).

I understand the point in some things like sexual content: no one is forced to do the romance part of the game but I see no problem in adding something like a fade-to-black in sex scenes option. It would be their choice to miss that part of the content.

Gore: as Ash said, I don't think they'd do much more than turn on/off blood splatters (which are already very reduced in Inquisition and sincerely, I fail to see how some red spots in the armor can be considered offensive -once again, my opinion-).

ETA: Poodle mentioned a fade to black in death scenes - Here I may disagree, it very much depends on the situation, still some things are directly not shown like when you behead someone in Inquisition.

And language- how does one do that? asterisks for the subtitles and a "beep" every time someone says a "bad word"? I find it a little ridiculous.

Still the OP explained their point politely instead of just demanding things be done the way they want (like most do around here), and that is appreciated.

This bit, yes they absolutely did, even though a few requests were a little contradictory. the comments in reply are something else entirely. I'm bad at writing when I'm tired so come off a little aggressive. I've had coffee now though! so all better :D

edit: I like the way they did jack's swearing fest in ME3.. after Joker has a go at her about watching her language it fades to black/silent just as she starts to say 'F----' it cracked me up so much imagining the swearing rant she just started.

Both methods IMPLY that events happen.  And both are cowardly. The op and people like him have the option to find a game with a rating more approriate for them or harden up.  No-ones sensibilities are worth compromising any part of storytelling. Ever.

How are both cowardly? You ever hear of "leave something to the imagination"? It's actually a respected tool in literature and media.

One reason I will never play the Witcher games.

They are cowardly because they compromise a scene just because someone might not like it. The tool you refer to is in relation to details, not the actual events happening then and there, and as a time-saver when there is just too much going on. It's not meant as a tool for censorship, voluntary or otherwise.

I'm not talking about censoring it though. Nor is the OP.

Voluntary censorship is still censorship and thats exactly what the toggles would be no matter the reasoning behind them. Waste of time and effort for the protection of sensibilites. And with that, i am done with the topic.

Neither do I, but I want to have my weekend so I can recover from another stressful work week.

Couple more hours and I can settle in my chair with a nice cold Dr pepper float.

Dragon Age Inquisition: Descent release on the 11th/12th or whenever it is available in my country. time zones suck. I've been wanting to hit the Deep Roads since DAI was released so I'm impatient. Almost waited a year for this one!

Clever.

But seriously, you've mentioned it several times. I want to know how to make one so that I can try it.

Couldn't resist.

You ever heard of a root beer float? Glass with a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream then fill it with root beer. With a Dr pepper float, you use Dr pepper instead of root beer. Yum.
